Re: Direct3D 11 via DDraw.dll

Don't worry about German, I'm from Germany (even though I live in Sweden nowadays). However that error log was not useful after all. The message from edit 2 however is. The error says "driver internal error". While you can never be sure if people use the error codes correctly, that one pretty much i...

Re: Direct3D 11 via DDraw.dll

Please use the latest version of the ddraw.dll: https://github.com/rdoeffinger/xwa_ddraw_d3d11/releases It will print a more detailed error message that might help tracking down the cause. EDIT: it seems I did not read fully, you used 1.5.4. Please quote the error you get with that one, the error me...

Re: GOG version. The screen becomes semi-transparent white in the hangar and freeze the game. :hilfe:

Becoming white in the hangar usually is because it detects the game does not check the Windows event queue. The reason is that instead of doing that it gets input from DirectInput only. Do you have any unusual input or controller drivers? Could you try xwahacker (the GUI version) and check the "Fix ...

Re: Direct3D 11 via DDraw.dll

Hello Reimar, Following your indications on testing other releases of ddraw.dll, I think that the instability with the frame rate started in the version 1.4.0. At least, this is my case. Just to be clear: you have a performance issue, not crashes or anything? That would be even harder to figure out...

Re: Direct3D 11 via DDraw.dll

I released 1.5.4 which hopefully gives a slightly more useful error message in case of the "device suspended" error.
Not included in that release, but I also tried to order and clean up the ddraw.cfg a bit:

Re: Direct3D 11 via DDraw.dll

I also tried some older versions: with the version 1.4.1 the game crashes after a few minutes. With the version 1.3, the same distributed by GOG, I never had problems. I use this version now... There is also a v1.4, did/could you test that one as well? I'll also add more diagnostics to the error yo...

Re: Direct3D 11 via DDraw.dll

About the ddraw.cfg: I can look into sorting it into sections and improving the descriptions - might need your help on what is unclear though. Note that most things are just there to make debug easier or allow special use-cases. Very little code is specify to the older games, so I don't really see ...

Re: Invert y axis keeps turning down

How are you inverting the axis? That setting by other user reports seems to be broken, the option in the ddraw.cfg of the latest ddraw.dll has been reported to work in other threads though (try searching if you need details).

Re: Direct3D 11 via DDraw.dll

There have been many, many changes since that version, you could check the history at https://github.com/rdoeffinger/xwa_ddraw_d3d11/releases for when this happened.
An obvious thing to check would be different settings for RefreshLimit though.

Re: Joystick Control fix?

I recently got recommended this game from a friend and I noticed that the joystick controls are completely wrong. When I tilt my joystick left or right it turns when it should roll. When I rotate my joystick (yaw) it rolls when it should turn. It's impossible to fly. Is there a mod that fixes this ...

I guess you change something to the way the game uses the controller (if I'm mistaken please tell me)? Re: X-Wing Alliance has stopped working

Doesn't sound like a know issue and I don't know if anyone will be able to help, but it might be good to mention on top of which XWA version you installed the pack? (I usually use the Skirmish mode to test out things, so it definitely does not crash on my installation) Steam, GoG or CD version? And ...

Re: Question about XWA Upgrade Controls

I found a bug (fixed in the latest release) that meant if the ddraw.cfg contained no JoystickEmul line (or it was commented out) it would be random whether it picked joystick or mouse controls.
Could that have been the cause for your issue?

Re: Question about XWA Upgrade Controls

Sorry, I was just trying to explain how the emulation works. It would help me if you could confirm that with "JoystickEmul = 0" your Joystick works, while with "JoystickEmul = -1" it doesn't. The thing is, with the -1 value the dll is supposed to just check joyGetNumDevs/joyGetPosEx (the same functi...

Re: Game Crashes But Also Doesn't Crash While In The Hanger?

That's not a crash, it just says the application is not responding. That's actually kind of normal/correct, because the application while in the hangar stops polling events. So just don't stay in the hangar that long? Otherwise xwahacker has the "message loop in hangar" fix for that if you REALLY wa...

Re: Question about XWA Upgrade Controls

Yes, but note that the emulation via mouse is only enabled when Windows very clearly says "there is no joystick connected". I.e. if you have this problem this means your joystick isn't properly configured in Windows. One possible cause is that Windows "forgets" the default joystick setting. And in i...

Re: XWAU 1.4 frame drop

First, anyone having performance issues it would be useful information on whether the CPU or the GPU is the issue, which one is at 100% load (for CPU, only one core will be used by the game, so the load of that core is all that matters). I have DSUCP v2.4 installed and I noticed a major drop in fram...

Re: Cycling Targeting Computer @ Very High Resolution, Crash

No, this is not related at all, you're not even running at the high resolutions this thread is about.
Unless you are using a driver from around early 2016, there is no point in using the xwahacker fix options you are using, you need to use the ddraw.dll instead.

Re: INFO: Common graphic problems with XWA

This whole thread is about the game not working with modern graphics drivers, so it's not surprising you have issues when you try to run it without patches! The ddraw.dll is the solution for this, but it requires Direct3D11 which most definitely is not available on XP (it COULD be implemented in e.g...

Re: XWAU 1.4 frame drop

Just curious: have you considered making the hooks patch the binary at runtime? It would mean you didn't have to modify the (on-disk) binary to activate the hooks and the hooks could be called directly and properly, no indirection via DirectInputCreateA and stack tricks. Not that hacking the binary ...

Re: XWAUCPv1.4 available

You'll need to try out the RefreshLimit option in ddraw.cfg and the 1.5.1 release of the ddraw dll. I think most people are not having these issues, I certainly don't, so this can only be fixed (besides going back to an old version, but that just causes issues for other people) if you who are affect...
