Re: XWA.Exe Patches

...so... what does disabling the starfield archive technically?... So, just a technical question. What does not rendering the starfield achieve? Does it increase performance? Does it add any new possibilities to be implemented? Can it be automatically overwritten by a generic starfield backdrop? How...

Re: Reopening: Vince-T's Modding HQ

erm, no, reshade cannot do reflections, that's why I said to mirror your model and set the floor to semi-transparent (like cockpit glass). this would look like a shiny floor. I did afterward see one problem which is the sink-hole (elevator I presume since I believe in ANH stormtroopers come up throu...

Re: Reopening: Vince-T's Modding HQ

Awesome site and new updates.
I had an idea for your hangars though, to simulate the shiny floor you can duplicate and mirror the visible surfaces (walls, ceiling, other protruding structures) and set the floor to 0.5 transparent.
however, maybe Jeremy could add mirrored hangar objects too?

Also, while the ini file is forwards compatible (assuming default values for non-existing entries) re-compiling a single patch hook would mean as more patches are made the hook will get bigger and bigger taking more time to compile and also opens up the potential of breaking older patches if Jeremy ...

Re: How to install / why are the packages not described?

Essentially you will install ONE of two packages - XWAUP OR DSUCP. Both these packages contain everything on the download page with DSUCP containing a few token extras. If you want to install an additional package like Rebels or Tie Fighter conversion, you install XWAUP first then the additional pac...

Understanding is never a waist of time :)

I would admit that

Code: Select all

[WeaponColor]
DefaultFG=0 ;Default FG for all weapons used by this craft not otherwise specified here
would have been clearer, however, its been resolved and should pose not further problems :P

eg

; This craft also has a hangar based on rebels tv series
[Interdictor]
IsInterdictor = 0 ;well, it turns out xyz didn't have this feature

Re: Hooks

With all these hooks there is a potential for a lot of txt files, have you thought about making a unified ini file for each craft with section headers? then you could have: Suppose that the craft is "FlightModels\[Model].opt". To enable the interdictor feature, create a file named "FlightModels\[Mod...

Re: Custom Hangars

Your hangar looks great, but youl need to fix a few vertices causing bad shading. Does XWA split vertices for flat shading vs smooth shading? I guess it would make sense that it did so maybe the opt editor needs to first merge all vertices then split all vertices that exceed a "Smooth Angle" (PG use...

Re: 60FPS Inflight hook

Most look the same so I overplayed them and you can now see that the old hook and no hook is predominantly <30fps while the new hook allows >30fps (though if you enabled v-sync you would be pretty much a solid 30fps (just like no hook) http://fgfc.ddns.net/60hookcomparison.png the old hook is by far...

Re: [OPTing] XWA OPT Editor (a new opting tool is under construction)

now I know nothing about this engine, but I would suspect that "Illumination" = texture * 1 as opposed to normal texture * Shade (where shade is a normalised (0-1) RGB triplet) this would co-inside with lasers already being illuminated since they wouldn't be shaded. (or rather, they will be locked a...

Re: Nebulon-B Frigate redone

there is of course going to be a problem one day with conflicts, now while that happened before due to slot numbers, now it can happen due to person A using X as base and hooking Y while person B uses Y as base and therefor never sees X if they use A's missions I would suggest that all craft now rev...

Re: Coulda Woulda Shoulda: If YOU Had Control of the Sequel Trilogy

Yup, I like it. Its not too dis-similar to the film, but fixes the plot holes and makes sense. And, instead of starkiller base (Death Star 3), and the desert planet being the "link" to the old movies, the T65 is, which again, makes perfect sense since as you say, the F15, the Tornado etc have all be...

Re: Coulda Woulda Shoulda: If YOU Had Control of the Sequel Trilogy

I like both these stories and yet they are polar opposites. I think I relate more toward the first one but that's probably because of old EU (particularly Rogue Squadron) what both stories have that Canon doesn't is believability. In Canon BOTH exist in a state that doesn't make any sense. -Why woul...

Re: 4 great new releases!

These models look great, although I would argue the cockpit of the pinook is a little "colourful" and unshaded (although I do see the texture-based Ambient occlusion under the pipes and rest of floor) I can't remember if XWA shades the cockpit or not though so it might be fine in-game. Great work, T...

Re: Raider Corvette

One reason I can think of for vertex count increase is that to have flat shading or a crease they need to be separate vertices. if 2 faces share a vertex then it will smooth shade which is good for spheres and cylinders but not for cubes and hexagons etc.
