Re: Direct3D 11 via DDraw.dll

3DVision is not enabled automatically because the 3D context/swap chain is generated in windowed mode. Creating it in fullscreen mode (by changing the code) enables 3DVision but then it crashes immediately if you try to launch a mission. Interestingly if I change it back to windowed mode after that ...

Re: ddraw.dll for XvT BoP

Same as for XWA: if unpacked into those program's folders they make the hardware 3D mode work properly again, including some graphics improvements like MSAA, and avoiding some issues with ALT+Tab etc.

Re: ddraw.dll for XvT BoP

Now also working for X-Wing95 and TIE95, though the 8-bit software rendering mode is only partially working. I've seen stability issues in a few cases, but haven't been able to really track it down or even be sure if it has anything to do with this... Btw you can also enable a "blurrier" but IMO nic...

Re: ddraw.dll for XvT BoP

Updated version. It now seems to work fine for 3D and software mode, at least I am not aware of any more bugs now (except occasional hangs/crashes? Haven't occurred lately but it's hard to be sure they really are gone). Also there is a new xwahacker command-line version you can use to re-enable 3D m...

ddraw.dll for XvT BoP

Hello, I finally had time to look at the ddraw.dll project and managed to extend it to work for BoP except for movie playback - at least it works for me. Note that it's still a rough thing, tested only by me, but I attached it together with the config needed. It should still work with XWA if you cha...

Re: X-Wing Alliance buggy cockpit after patch

Never seen the first one, it looks like some of the 16 vs. 32 bit patching gone wrong? Are you running with the hacked DirectX implementation (with ddraw.dll file in the xwa directory)? As for the misplaced HUD, I'd try opening it with the xwahacker GUI and check the HUD scale settings, it can cause...

Re: Who is the correct FOV

After launch the latests version of XWA Hacker we can change the resolution and FOV's all people know what resolution must use, but no much people know who FOV is the correct. Assuming no bugs in the game, there is no "correct", it is purely a matter of preference. XWAHacker by default on its own i...

Re: XWA Craft Pack 1.2 Campaign doesn't work

Someone else reported this issue (keyboard input not working in hangar) before. But I am not sure if it was here or on the GOG forums, and I don't remember how it was resolved (but I am fairly sure it was resolved). So try searching around if you haven't figured it out. I don't think those are the r...

Re: Strange crash

I won't have time to investigate these kind of crashes. Lately it's been mostly Jeremya who has looked into such problem. This applies doubly if you use the new ddraw dlls - which I suspect you do since it was never possible to launch fullscreen games with resolutions wider than 2000 pixels on Windo...

Re: XWAHacker GUI available

I'll see if I find time to add it, but I think it's not quite the right solution especially considering that with the GUI you currently can't apply patches on the versions many people have. I think I'd rather just add a warning when people enter two resolutions with the same width that the game migh...

Re: XvT BOP Disc Swapping Issue

First: I slightly misremembered, I have no patch to disable the CD check completely. That isn't much of an issue as CD images work fairly well, plus you need them anyway for the music. Without using the command-line: make a copy of xvtfixedclear.bat, open it in an editor, change the "-m 1" to "-p 65...

Re: XvT BOP Disc Swapping Issue

xwahacker tool (the non-gui version) has support for disabling the disc swapping request and the CD check in general for BoP. I have not publicly advertised that feature before, but GOG probably used it on their releases so I'd expect it should be ok for me to mention. It means you have to figure ou...

Re: XWAHacker GUI available

If you compare interpolation between pixel values, then your viewer most likely simply uses a different algorithm. All GPUs only support nearest or linear interpolation as modes. With the Directx 11 renderer adding bicubic would be possible, but it would be a shader-based implementation and too expe...

Re: XWAHacker GUI available

I can tell you that 32bitmode.bat (and corresponding GUI option) set the framebuffer to use 32 bits/pixel. Most likely that means that 32 bit textures would be rendered at full quality, however I at least do not know the full render process to be sure there are no other steps involved that might los...

Re: 3D models during briefings cause crash on launch

Those modifications seem to be around the checks to 5000 points limit. Did you check/figure out why they don't work properly?
Just so I know if it's a complete waste of time if I try and have a look at it.

Re: XWAHacker GUI available

I re-uploaded with a new GUI version that only disables the option part so you can still edit the resolutions.
However I'd kind of like this binary or a description of the conflicts so it can be handled properly.

Re: XWAHacker GUI available

Note that the error message only appears if one of the modifications interferes directly with one of the patches in XWAHacker, which means that doing anything risks breaking it in a way that can't be repaired (well, I could skip the check for patches you can't change via the GUI, but that is a bit m...

It seems very unlikely, but just in case:
The error description matches 100% what happens under Linux/WINE.
You can try xwahacker to apply the fix for that, just in case it helps...

Re: XWAHacker GUI available

Ok, so the patch you proposed hacks the GetDriveType check. That is what I had thought about doing and seems reasonable and safe, so I added it. A new version 2.5 with it is uploaded. I also uploaded a 0.25 of the GUI with hopefully better description texts. I decided not to include or reference the...

Re: XWAHacker GUI available

I'll think it over, but I don't like including more patches. I'd definitely like to understand what effect it has exactly first. There is a simple workaround: Open explorer and click on your disk drive. Now you should no longer get these messages. This is probably the same effect that makes it work ...

Re: XWAHacker GUI available

That second dialog box isn't created by the game but by Windows behind its back. I think that means that your registry entries incorrectly point to your CD drive instead of installation path, which might cause other issues. Assuming I am right, I think your suggested patch is a bad idea as it would ...

Thanks, I'l think about better descriptions. I originally though obscure is better than scary complicated ;) . I'd prefer if a readme just wasn't needed for a GUI to be honest. Though the options part is intended mostly for people who want to play around with it or do exactly what they are told by s...

Re: flightscreen is not a valid bmp file

It might be easier to create a small tool to fix it rather than try to patch the binary.
Or convince your favourite image editor to handle these kind of broken files, I suspect they are not that uncommon.

Re: flightscreen is not a valid bmp file

Ok, it's indeed the alignment issue. GIMP for example can open then though, they are just distorted. Opening them as RAW files in any image editor should also allow you to see that all the data is there in principle. What basically needs to be done is to write (width modulo 4) extra bytes at the end...
