Hello skilled pilots, starship designers, weapon experimenters, hyperdrive technicians and tactical officers.
3 years ago when I opened the starship blueprints of the Galactic Empire I had downloaded from the Babylon 5 Wars Vault, I discovered a third class of Imperial Star Destroyers: the Tector-class, which is essentially a hangarless Star Destroyer.
I checked "The Essential Guide to Warfare" and "The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia", and I found that both these source books support the existence of such class. Additionally, these sources indicate the Tector-class as a variant of the Imperial I-class, since both these classes were manufactured for the first time during the Clone Wars. This statement also implies that shielding, propulsion system and weaponry of the Tector-class Star Destroyer are similar to those of the Imperial I-class.
However, these sources belong to the old Legends continuity, so they are actually unreliable regarding the historical period of introduction.
In the new Canon universe the only battle where at least 1 Tector-class Star Destroyer saw action is the Battle of Endor.
This fact suggests that the Tector-class has shielding and weaponry much more similar to those of the Imperial II-class rather than those of the Imperial I-class, but no Canon sources have been released yet.
I've seen in the "XWA Upgrade" section someone is working on the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer, therefore I was wondering if a Tector-class Star Destroyer is viable for a future craft pack.

A flagship the same size as in ISD, but without hangar? Who could invent a ship so useless? It is a waste of metal! I prefer to spend my little time creating more interesting projects!

I hear the MC85 in The Last Jedi is an interesting shipDTM wrote:A flagship the same size as in ISD, but without hangar? Who could invent a ship so useless? It is a waste of metal! I prefer to spend my little time creating more interesting projects!
Jokes aside and back on topic, it's not like the Tector is that different. IIRC the only difference is that its hangar are closed.
In theory, you could just add the ISDII opt to another ship slot, name it Tector and give it increased stats.

The Tector is a weird ship, there is a shot in ROTJ where the Falcon flies over an upside down Star Destroyer that has the forward hangar sealed, the main hangar replaced with greeble and the reactor core removed.
And for some reason the EU, and now the Canon decided to make it a separate ship.

I liked the Phoenix Rising (EaW) mod's take on the Tector as an anti-capital specialist support ship, as opposed to the ISD's more "everyman" role. Their version has all turboions replaced with turbolasers, adds some point defence lasers to make up for the lack of fighter complement, and plasma torpedoes for stripping away powerful shields at close range. Neatly gives it a reason to exist alongside the mainline ISD, while also explaining its presence at Endor/why it didn't appear elsewhere.
Here's a stat comparison for the ISD1 and TSD1 in PR (only stats that are different shown):

Phoenix Rising is a wonderful mod.
Thank you so much for the comparison.
I really appreciate this attempt to give the crafts from Phoenix Rising "Canon" statistics, since the ISD stats are those from X-Wing Alliance (except for the speed), but there is a thing I don't understand: how can hull resistance be rated in the same way (Resistance Units) in both X-Wing Alliance and Empire at War?
X-Wing Alliance and Empire at War (+Forces of Corruption) have much different game mechanics: in X-Wing Alliance a starship is destroyed and explodes when its hull is at 0%, whereas in Empire at War a starship is destroyed when all its hardpoints have been destroyed.
So what's the main difference?
In Empire at War you have to destroy all the weaponry hardpoints, the shield generators, the hangars and the engines to make that starship explode, whereas in X-Wing Alliance you only have to attack hull components to achieve such a task.
Moreover, in X-Wing Alliance you can also destroy all non-hull components (engines, weapon systems...) without even scratching the main hull, leaving it at 100% (maybe 99%), because you don't inflict hull damage if you attack such components.
So in a certain way X-Wing Alliance and Empire at War have opposite logic.
Thank you so much for the comparison.

No shp file, so you'll have to create the stats and description yourself and decide which slot you want it in.
It's made from the current ISDII opt, so everything is exactly the same apart from I've removed and sealed the hangars, altered a few textures and just added a couple of more turbo empire laser hardpoints.
I've included the original Readme file for the ISDII, this is to be kept with the opt!

I didn't realize that the Tector-class Star Destroyer lacks the tractor beam in Phoenix Rising mod for Empire at War.Rich C wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2018 11:27 pmI liked the Phoenix Rising (EaW) mod's take on the Tector as an anti-capital specialist support ship, as opposed to the ISD's more "everyman" role. Even if it's logical (no main hangar, no tractor beams), this is a huge disadvantage vs DP20 Corellian Gunships since they have unlimited engine boosts.
In this way the Tector-class Star Destroyer is even more "anti-capital specialist" compared to the standard Imperial Star Destroyer.
