I've not checked in in quite a while. I had a few bowling needs, which I've since taken care of, and am now saving up for a HOTAS rig in earnest. That's going to come first because one of my longer-time pilots (our traditional Red 5 billet, in fact) alerted me to something called ShadowPC that may suit my needs in the immediate future while allowing me to save up for other stuff before turning my attention to a gaming PC build. I put the link to it in the Squadrons thread.

As a complete surprise, the Boston Karaoke Meetup Group, which I've been a member of about as long as I've been a member of these forums, switched to the Zoom platform in the COVID pandemic, and I only learned of them in the last month or so. I never got to any of their live meets for various reasons, but Zoom meets are definitely something I can do, and I've been in three of them since learning of them. They already consider me one of their own now, pretty much taking over their rocker mantle after having done songs by artists as varied as Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, Billy Squier, Rush, and Yes, with that last one being their "Changes" at my first meet, a song that I thought I had no business doing when I first started doing karaoke back in the 90s, but did it just about flawlessly (I just didn't hold the "care" note in the first verse long enough.). It may have been the toughest karaoke song I ever thought I did well and gave me a lot of confidence. I've since installed OBS, which I was going to do eventually for gaming, anyway, but expedited the download upon recognizing its utility for karaoke. I hope to have a karaoke song recorded sometime next weekend. 🎡😁😎

I may be ahead of schedule. Found a used Logitech X52 in like-new condition for $200 + tax on an Amazon seller, and I didn't think I was going to find one in that condition in stock for that price, so I had to pull the trigger. Delivery window was stated as between next Friday and the following Tuesday, but I'll know when it ships. 😁

UPDATE: The HOTAS has shipped, apparently from New Jersey, so I could conceivably have it here earlier than Friday. πŸŽ‰

And I have a headset, the Roccat Elo 7.1 Air, ordered. That's really the last piece of the puzzle missing before I set up the Shadow virtual PC, which, as I just noted in the Squadrons thread, should run that game. I still want to get the older games so I can ease back into it. I am considering this transition similar to the one I had to make as a bowler between the era of urethane equipment and wood lanes to the one of reactive resin and synthetic lanes. I had to learn new things with that transition; this will be no different.

Update...

HOTAS: βœ”
Headset: βœ”
Shadow terminal: βœ”β“ (ordered, but not available for two months)
Copy of X-Wing series: βœ” (installed on local machine; XWA is "vanilla")
Copy of Squadrons: βœ”β—

Did most of my HOTAS programming for XW over the weekend and was hoping to test tonight, but not really feeling it. I got the XW games on GOG during their winter Star Wars Essentials sale for $12 total, and a similar deal existed on Epic for Squadrons (Thank you, ScalpWakka!), so now I have a copy of that ready for when I'm ready to play it. Overall, my wallet is very happy, so hopefully I can turn some of it to helping out a mate who's struggling to get in the game, too. 😎

I always said the state of my right hand was going to be the wild card for my successful return to flight duty, but, while my HOTAS testing today in XW went mostly well, I found my right hand was mostly useless when I actually tried to do something akin to normal, so I still have a ways to go. Likely a phone call to my specialist in the morning.

That really does suck. Hopefully it's something you can work around one way or another.

Haven't been on these boards in a while, but happy to have BattleDog part of the crew. Progress on the SVS website has stalled, but we may be making our Discord public, so stay tuned.

And now you can check gaming PC off the list. Now I just need a monitor, though I could jump into Squadrons now w/ 1600 X 900 @ 60 Hz. I'd just need guidance on what I should be installing for the XWAU if I don't necessarily want VR or Track IR right now.

And my tremor has more or less responded to the maximum dose of the medication I've been taking for it. I may give the X-Wing "Maze" some trials in the coming week. πŸ‘

Have not done a "Happy" post in some time. Basically, the tech makeover, save for a 4K BluRay drive, is done, and I even now have a new laptop (but that's not a gaming class laptop; I really only need it for bowling, plus the occasional non-gaming entertainment/karaoke event). And it was a good thing I did, because I can now devote state tournament side event proceeds to something I've never had as an adult: Getting my driver's license and (perhaps) my own vehicle. ☺️
