Hi again XWAUP, I've just got my HOTAS working along with all the amazing, beautiful new updates. But I keep getting a consistent crash on the loading screen for battle 2, third mission. It's the one after the first 2 rebel training missions. I don't think it's the hangar itself, since the calamari hangar loaded fine for the first two rebel missions. I just did a fresh install of XWA with XWAUP 1.6 and the rest that were not included.

The last 5 that I installed on the same day were:
Asteroids_v4.1.exe
CalamariHangar_v4.1.exe
ZeroG_v1.1.exe
ImperialPilot_v1.1.exe
Droids_v2.2.exe

I've had a few other issues that I was able to fix but this is the first that stopped the game.
This is what I'm running:

Windows 10 Pro
i5 6600K @ 4.4MHz
32GB Corsair DDR4 RAM
Gigabyte RTX 2070
Corsair AX850 PSU
ASUS ROG Z170 Maximus VIII Ranger
SBZ sound card
installed on an SSD
GSYNC compatible monitor at 144hz, GYSNC enabled
2nd non gsync monitor

I've already tried turning Vsync on and off, removing the Bluemax effects and removing all the hooks, it crashes the same. I also just updated the ddraw, hook files, and the bluemax effects.
Here is the event log:

I can't do Event Log errors but Jeremy can decipher sometime.

Please answer these: Can you play Skirmishes with no issues?
Can you load the Pilot Training Grounds hangar with no issues?
Can you load the Azzameen hangar with no issues?
Does this ONLY happen on Battle 2, mission 3? Are you able to try mission 4 or another battle.

There was really no need to install any of those 5 files. The Imperial Pilot is ok but minor.
If you want to try some stuff you can try to restore back some updates.

XwaToolsDownloader is a tool to easily download the editing tools for X-Wing Alliance. Currently it includes the following:
Xwa Backup Restorer

BACKUP YOUR FOLDER FIRST!
If you load this then you can remove those last 5 updates and see if it works again. If it does then put the pilot only back in.
The program will restore the last patch you did and if you select one 3 rows down it will remove all the above too so please be careful.

Otherwise hang on for Jeremy to look at your logs. Hope that helps a bit.

Hello,
The crash at offset 0x000849c7 means that the game failed to load an OPT file.

EDIT: link removed

That's the Private Forum Jeremy so he can't see that :D
Battle 2, Mission 3 only uses the Otana though not the Falcon or YT.

Darth_Binks have you installed the YT or Falcon after the XWACUP?

Woh woh woh, Millenium Flacon what now??? :D :P

Ace, I did not install the Otana or YT after the XWAUP. I played the campaign up to that point with no game ending crashes, so everything else loaded right before that. But I recently installed those 5 opts. I only installed the Calamari Hangar becase mine was unchanged, I still had what looked like the old models in there, no rebel soldiers no extra "stuff." Skirmishes and Azzameen hangar both work fine. The only hangar issue I've had is random extreme slowdowns especially while launching. I havn't tried the training grounds yet or any mission past B2M3.

I'll try the backup restore tool sometime this week. Thanks guys!

So I used the Restorer to remove the last 5 updates I did, and it made no difference with the crashing. But I think there is still something wrong with the R2 unit.

When I try to view the R2 unit in the tech library it doesn't load the R2 model. If I scroll up or down he looks like the type 2 nav buoy or emkay. If I view any other model and then skip to R2 without letting the models load inbetween, the displayed model for R2 is whatever the last model was that fully loaded.

I also made a complete backup of my X-Wing Alliance folder and used Restorer to remove every update that I did after installing XWAUP 1.6

Same crash.

It was the frigate!

I did a clean install of XWAUP 1.6 and still got the same crash. I loaded up the mission viewer and looked up all the craft involved. Then tested them one by one in skirmish mode until I singled out the frigate. Apparently the frigate "Jericho" with the "strike" option in this mission was making my clean install crash. I downloaded the frigate stand alone .exe, installed it, selected the strike version and it worked fine. No crashes!

There seems to be something wrong with selecting the strike option for frigates in the XWAUP 1.6
