I am having the issue that the game crashes to black screen at the same point on the very first prologue mission. Right before you are supposed to pick up a container. I read thru the forums and found similar issues including fixes, but none of the fixes worked for me. I have the steam version of the game and I am running it on Win10 at 1920x1080. I tried Windows XP compatibility without any luck.
I am fairly new to X-Wing Alliance Upgrade and just recently installed it. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Silly question: did you install the XWAUP 1.6 patch? Please post a crash report following the guidelines here: https://www.xwaupgrade.com/phpBB3/viewt ... 10&t=12717

Make sure you install an updated craft.
I've been saying the Containers pack for ease.
It includes other updates like Hooks you maybe missing.

Open the Event Viewer. Then go to Windows Logs -> Application and look for the latest event where xwingalliance.exe is mentioned and post what you see here.
You can also open the Explorer and go to %localappdata%\crashdumps and upload the latest xwingalliance.dmp file you see there.
Also, have you tried this mission using Jeremy's ddraw?

Sorry for taking so long to get back on here. Thanks for the replies.
I was able to play the game past the first prologue mission after I made some changes to the resolution and screen size since I am playing on an ultra wide monitor. It seemed to work fine until the Interlude: Joining the Rebellion Mission 2.
The game crashes to black screen after I destroy the first fighter of the 4th waive I believe. I tried several times and got two different event logs it seems like.
They are posted below....They have two different time stamps about 12 minutes apart.

1 - Did you do as I suggested above and install the Containers pack from the Downloads page?
2 - Make sure MIP Mapping is turned on in your option screen in game.
Can you confirm if you have or have not installed the Effects from Blue Max? It's ok if you haven't, you don't need to yet.
There's a new fix that may help you coming but we need to know if you tried steps 1 and 2 at least.
Thanks

Ok next thing to do is update your Hooks.
Use this program then copy Hooks from Setup folder it creates into your XWA main Folder

I did not rename the .exe file at all. Just installed from Steam.

Update...I did notice that I had two startup .exe files in my directory. One called XWingAlliance.exe and one called ALLIANCE.exe.
Seems like when I start the game with the XWingAlliance.exe the game is stable. I've now played several missions without a crash. Fingers crossed that this was the issue.
I never renamed any of the executable files...so.i don't know why I two?

It's normal to have 2 binaries in your XWA directory. Alliance.exe is the launcher and xwingalliance.exe is the game itself. Some people have problems running the game through the launcher, but I don't think we've seen this sort of failure before
