Remember this old thing, with the slightly psychedelic textures,
(no disrespect to Decoy who made the original textures for the Y-Wing )
So what should we do about it???
Well how about this??
So what do you think?
You want it??

I personally really like the yellow, my first intention was to have the default as yellow but I changed it to red before opting, but it could be possible if everyone agrees

Wow that is excellent.
I must admit I kinda like the idea of the yellow being default. Mission discrepancies are easily fixed and it'll add some variety in skirmishes so I'll put a vote in for the yellow.

Excellent job!
I kind of like the more screens in the old cockpit but the new one is more true to the movie.
I am liking it a lot, can't wait to see it in blue

Excellent! Keep all flight group colors. One of the actual movie models (or replicas ? ) I took a pic of at the traveling exhibit shows it as gold/yellow flight color :

I really like the newer Y-wing ( the original xwaupgrade one was cool for it's day...) I agree it looks more like the movies!! And I really love the cockpit... it gives you that inclosed feeling. And I like the yellow default better too!.... Well done Darksaber!!!

Wonderful job! Absolutely stunning work on those textures! I also agree, do yellow as the standard color.

You're a hero, DS, those new textures are beautiful. You've also fixed the one gripe I had with the whole XWAU.
I do agree that yellow definitely looks better, and it would be great to have a bit of variety in skirmish, as well as have it look more like the films. But as the only time I fire up XWA these days is to play the odd mission I'm fond of, I'd actually vote for keeping the FG colours as they are (unless the installer can rewrite all the missions so that the Y-wings are the right colour... Yeah I didn't think that was likely either ), but as it looks like my opinion is massively outnumbered, I guess my vote doesn't count for much anyway.

It looks as though the majority would like Yellow as default, but what I could do with the installer, instead of editing all the mission, (which would be a little tedious)
I could add options to install the default Red,Yellow, blue & green and then another option with a different set of opts to install the Yellow, Red, Blue & Green
This way it would make everyone happy
Plus since I've already made both options, it would seem logical

I've edited all the missions (only 9) featuring Rebel Y-Wings, changing FG colours to "Gold" for squads named "Red" and vice versa. I can upload these somewhere if you want to include them in the installer for the gold default option.Darksaber wrote:instead of editing all the mission, (which would be a little tedious)

GT my original intention was to have the yellow as the default FG, but I changed my mind before saving them as opts
It was Leofus who suggested it again, since everyone mention having the Yellow as default I've made 2 sets of opts
Yeah cheers Rich, sounds good to me, you could email them, let me know and I'll pm you my email address

Hi there,
As a long time player of XWA I've been checking up on this forum for a very long time. I really appreciate all the great work you are all still doing. Also in the detailing in correct sizes, like the Executor and the 6,2m A-wing.
There is one thing though that made me sign up just now. Seeing the Y-wing is being updated (again) I wanted to mention something that has always bothered me. You see, I have strong suspicion that the 3d-model is based on the schematics found in the Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessel. And to be frank, that one is faulty. Main problem is that the engines are both too narrow, which make the ship look "skinny".

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/File:Ywing.jpg
( I wanted to use the img tag, but it asked for dimensions or something)
Fixing this would make the Y-wing more accurate and beefier as well. And needless to say, the new textures look great.
I know, "if you don't like it, do it yourself" applies here, but I am not a modeler or texture maker. And have no interest to become one to just correct this issue. Just something I noticed and wanted to share.

BAZINGA!!!!
Ahhh! you mean something like this???
The Craft on the left or top is the version you'll be getting soon, the other model is one I made a few years ago but never got around to finishing
Sorry about the large size images
You'll notice the larger BEEFIER Engines and remodelled body compared to the picture of the you posted from Wookiepedia
One Day I might get around to finishing and opting it (when I have a bit more time)
The Craft I'm going to release soon is basically a quick fix for the textures
