Battle thread. You all know the rules. Good luck to all, play fun, play nice, make big booms. :p
---
In the inky blackness of the Onyx Nebula, the planet of the Molkar orbited its star. The Molkar lived and died on their planet, unaware of life outside their world- and blissfully unaware of the 'gold mine' upon which they sat. For within the nebula, they could not see the stars of the universe, and thus they knew not of the outside galaxy, and had no reason to develop spaceflight.
But all that was about to change.
---
General Edor Crespin looked up from the hologram of the Vinkessan sector as Colonel Diane Doriana walked in the door of his private office in Valkyrie Base. "Diane! I wasn't expecting you back so soon from the Shipyards (Crimson). I take it the production of the Shadowflames and TIE Shadows is back up to specs?" he said as he walked around the table and hugged her, nuzzling her neck. "It's good to have you back,[/i] he whispered before stepping back and gesturing at a chair opposite his desk.
She sat in it and tossed her burnished red-gold hair, and nodded. "They've completely recovered from the pirate attack. We were able to trace them back to their base and I sent the Orion Blue task force to destroy them. Captain Nerano reported back just before I left, he said there were no survivors. The pirate threat has been eliminated."
"Good. I've been studying a report just filed by a scout ship sent to the Vinkessan sector, not too far from the Chiss' outmost systems. There's a nebula there, maybe you've heard of it. The Onyx Nebula?" She shook her head, and he elaborated. "Most nebulae are colorful in some visible spectrum, emitting light. But the Onyx Nebula, it's... pitch black dust. A large blotch in space. Anyone looking there would just see an area void of stars. There's been a few scientific missions, but nothing much. Until now. The scout ship pilot flew through part of the nebula, and discovered there was a star in there. A star with a planet. He did a flyby, and found there was sentient human life on the planet. Pre-spaceflight, they didn't have a planet-wide government but one that was pretty much continental. So one per continent, plus some independant islands and stuff... you get the idea. They're in near-perpetual warfare."
"And you're telling me this... why?" she asked, faking a yawn, but now studying the hologram of the system with renewed interest.
"You remember that report we intercepted about Adumar a while back? How the New Republic was desperate to have them become a member of the New Republic because they had weapon-producing facilities which could easily be converted to produce proton torpedoes and other missiles on a scale unseen on a planet before. Now imagine that on a scale twice the size. They apparently developed along lines similar to the Adumari, whatwith fighting all the time, but more airfighter-type missiles. Sure, we or the NR could set up something like this.. but it would take rather a while and be expensive. Again, we compare with Adumar... all we need to do is convert them. A bit more difficult than Adumar, since those were spaceship missiles and these are aircraft. But still, easy.. Convince them that joining us would be good for them, otherwise... you guess what we'll do," he finished and sank back in his chair.
Diane digested this information in silence for a few moments. "So we're going to send in a battle fleet?"
He shook his head. "Captain Morvon has proved a good officer in past situations. I feel that this would be a good test of his new command," he said, leaning forward and bringing up a hologram of the Hegemon's new modified Celestia-class MC-75s. The original MC-75s had been the New Republic's answer to the Empire's Victory-class Star Destroyers. The Remnant Hegemon had modified their quartet of surreptitiously obtained MC-75s from their original mix between starship combat and troop transport, removing all their troop-transporting capability and and re-arranging interior configuration. Due to heavy automation of the weapons system that resulted in crew size reduction, part of the extra space had been used for more turbolasers, ion cannon, and warhead launchers and the rest had been given over starfighter support and enlarging the exisiting hangar bays and flight decks. The starship was now nearly a match for an MC-80 or an Imperator-class Star Destroyer, and carried eight squadrons of starfighters. The Celestia herself, Morvon's command, carried two squadrons of X-wings, two squadrons of TIE Avengers, one squadron of TIE Scimitar Bombers, one squadron of B-wings, one squadron of TIE Shadow A-Types, and one TIE Defender squadron. "You know all about them and our other special modifications. If he runs into more trouble than he can handle, which I doubt, we'll have a battle group standing by. Perhaps the Shadowkeeper's, it's been a while since Ras Algethi," he said, referring to the last battle his flagship had participated in. "This should also prove a good test of his negotiating skills. You want to go with him, just in case?"
She shook her head. "He can take care of himself, I was with him at Ras Algethi. I'll stay here this time... spend some time with you," she said with a promising smile before standing up. "I'm going to go wash up. Meet me at the observation lounge later for supper."
---
Captain Niles Morvon stood on the bridge of the first of the new Celestia-class MC-75 Star Cruisers and read the file on his datapad that had been sent over the secure channel. Go to Onyx Nebula... Contact indigenous humans, attempt peaceful contact, alliance... If peace refused, destroy without harming production facilities. he skimmed through the orders a second time. So this is to the test of my new command. Lets not prove them wrong, he thought to himself, and set the datapad down in his chair. "Lieutenant Deren, is the ship ready for launch?"
"Yes, sir. All starfighter squadrons report ready. All weapons systems report at nominal. The ship is ready for battle, sir!"
"Very well. Hyperspace to previously-transmitted co-ordinates on my mark. Three... two... one... mark."
The starship streaked into hyperspace, bound for the Onyx Nebula.
---
Onboard the Molkar homeworld, the Mollia nation prepared it's first squadron of nine combat space ships for launch. No other nation on their world had knew what they knew- there was something else!
Their scientists had been working for decades on theoretical technology that might, or might not, work. They had never been able to test until their first ships that had been equipped with faster-than-light propulsion drives had been launched at an optimum moment of the never-ending war. They had been launched and ordered to find out what was out there. Some of the more radical scientists had even theorized of other intelligent life in whatever was outside. If, indeed, there was something outside, and not a... nothingness as had been thought for so very long.
---
Focus on diplomacy as much or as little as you want. Do whatever you want with the world, long as you keep within what I mentioned about it. Objectives? Maybe just keep others from obtaining production facilities and blow them up. Maybe send in ground commando missions for who-knows-what. Or lets just nuke the place to radioactive glass and have a good ol' fashioned furball!
[ 07 May 2004: Message edited by: General Edor Crespin ]

Location: Jordaan, moon of Heracles [Capitol of the United Worlds]. United Worlds Towers, Military Division.
Colonel Joseph O'Reily studied the holographic display before him. It showed a zoomed-out view of the entire arm of the galaxy. Several regions were enclosed in cobalt boxes. He passed his finger through the light display, and the infrared sensors immediately responded, detecting which region of the image he had touched. The hologram distorted for a moment, and then reformed itself into a display of the Primordius Region, the part of the spiral arm in which Heracles, and all known sectors were in.
He studied the new display. There was movement.
O'Reily contacted his superior immediately, his eyes scurrying about the image.
"General, this is Colonel O'Reily. We have movement, sir." the Colonel informed, his voice calm and collected as an Officer's always should be.
The General responded, "What is it's nature?"
"The Remnant Hegemon, sir. In the Vinkessan sector. Specifically, the Onyx Nebula."
The General immediately tensed up. Only approximately two months earlier had the United Worlds Naval Forces discovered the planet inside the nebula.
Location: UWN Odysseus (Previously named Athena) - on the bridge.
"Admiral Demming (Darek Li'Mao resigned), we have an order coming in from Home. It's from the President, priority one."
Admiral Ganner Demmin stood up and walked toward the Comm Officer's post, "Let's hear it."
United Worlds Command Priority One Message: UWN Odysseus is to exit Ras Algethi system. Report immediately to Nexus Alpha. Escort will meet you there. Proceed to Vinkessan sector. He watched the tide of the battle swing back and forth; one side would gain the upper hand, then the other. It had been repeating thusly for over an hour. He was ready to give up and go home; the battle could continue without spectators.
He took one last glance at the battle and saw it: one of the craft, an Omer-An fighter, a small fighter with two big engines and big wings with four laser cannons and one missile port, begin to disintegrate under sustained fire. It exploded suddenly, and without this fighter in the battle, the opposing side could finally take command of the battle, as that had been the last of the major fighters. All that were left were scout fighters.
A piece of confetti landed on his nose. He brushed it off, turned to his left, and watched the engineers work up some more "fighters" for people to compete with. He grinned. They were so much fun to control from the ground; there was a camera on the control, as well as a radar. One could see exactly where one was, if someone was tailing him, and whether or not someone was in one's sights.
The "battle" over, the host, a rich man who loved to see his people enjoy themselves, pulled more names out of a hat to see who would be piloting the next battle.
His name was called, and he went to the stand where he was given his choice of fighters, as well as command of his team, as he was the first of the pilots to be called. He chose a small, swift fighter, the Ipher-Tan. It was, in real life, about eight meters long. It looked like the character Tan, with the cockpit up front and the wings, each about two meters long each, and the tail which kept the fighter level. It harnessed no missile system, but it did contain three laser cannons.
His model was one meter long, and everything was proportionately correct. He set up a hiearchy of what he wanted his team to be made up of shipwise, and then let his teammates fill up those slots.
He looked across to the other team and saw their team leader. Bayjin.
At that moment, Bayjin looked up and saw him. He mouthed the words "You're going down, Tippin." Then he grinned and gave him a thumbs up. Tippin grinned back and returned the gesture.
Once both teams were ready, a horn was sounded and both teams launched. When all were in the air and somewhat flying in formation, another horn was sounded and the battle began.
It was a good battle, and Tippin had been in many such battles before. It was fun. It was exciting. And yet it was common, for such was the life on Mildridge, largest continent on Molkar. Many of the smaller nations always were fighting, but none dared to challenge Mildridge for fear that they would be crushed.
Far away, a council of nations and one person from the stars were about to change that.
-------------------
OOC: Someone else be the bad guy this time. Particularly the "person from the stars". Being the Ssi-Ruuk sucked last time.

To: Comadore Stewart
From: Admiral MWJ, Supreme Fleet Command
Re: Deployment to Onyx Nebula
Based on Intelligence reports, several opposing task forces are moving towards said nebula. Therefore you are to immediately transfer from Gambit to Kearsage and take command for the duration of this mission. You will take the battle group and support ships. Remain in contact every 12 hours. That is all.

[OOC] I told you I'd post. :p Could a mod either delete the off-topic posts or move to another thread? "battle thread OOC" or whatever. Thanks. I'll also take on the 'person from the stars'. After all, the New Republic may be all good all the time, but I'm not. *evil smile*[/OOC]
The Celestia dropped out of hyperspace several thousand kilometers outside the fringes of the Onyx Nebula. "Status report, Lieutenant?" Morvon called without turning from the bridge viewport, watching the dark blotch in space ahead of them.
"All systems fully functional, Captain."
"Very well. Have Vestige Squadron launch and hyper to the Molkar planet, then engage cloaking devices and report on conditions. All other starfighter squadrons to be ready to launch. Lieutenant Huren. Engines to full, put us on a course for the planet."
---
"Vestige Lead to squadron. Co-ordinates have been transmitted, hyperspace on my mark. Three... two... one... mark."
The starfighters flashed into hyperspace and dropped out bare seconds later some distance from the mottled planet. As a group the starfighters flickered and vanished. "Nine, you and your flight establish a patrol path around the system. Watch out for visitors, Commander Morvon commed me a message, several other old friends have also learned of the Molkar, wouldn't be a surprise if they showed up. Everyone else, on me."
Four of the starfighters peeled off from the squadron and headed off on a different course, the rest flew on to the planet. "Two Flight, go into orbit, enter positions that will give maximum data. One Flight, we're going in."
---
To any observers on the planet, the flight of cloaked starfighters that entered the atmosphere appeared simply as a group of large meteors burning up as they entered the atmosphere, somewhat more spectacular than most.
Interestingly, if any visual telescopes had been trained on the streaks of fire, nothing would have been seen causing the fire.
---
"Commander! A ship has just entered the area. It's cloaked, but sensors caught it. Cloaking signature indicates it's of the United Worlds Navy design. Extrapolation indicates it's on course for the Molkar planet. Sir, they'll detect us soon, and they have the technology to detect cloaked ships as well."
"So they've decided to come to the party. Continue on our course, but watch the ship. Send a message to Valkyrie Base, notify them. Vestige Lead too."
[ 13 May 2004: Message edited by: The Corellian Alchemist ]

Nebula gasses whipped around the Kearsage as she made her way deeper inside, towards where the planet was.
After two years of intermittant refitting and upgrading, Kearsage was now back up to full operating status. It had been nearly two years since both she and her sister ship Cantwell had their axial superlasers and good portions of the hull damaged in a major battle. Since then, GTVA technology had been integrated into the fleet, and several other technological advancements had been made. The axial superlaser was fully repaired, but a quartet of super heavy beam cannons were added just below it on the nose, equal to the heaviest guns on the Colossus class. A second battery of four was found on the stern, and two dozen other heavy beam cannons were mounted in place of several of the heavy turrets. Flak guns had been mounted, both long range and hull defense. Most of the point defense lasers had been replaced with anti-fighter beams, or the new gattling lasers. Finally, the massive capital ship bay that was a distinctive feature of the class, the gaping cavity on the vertral hull, had been enclosed, armored, and filled with hangar bays and housing the relocated gravity well generators. The interior had also been rearranged to make room for a second main reactor, to power the additional equipment, boost top speed and shields, and provide backup power should one reactor go out. Fighter capacity was upped to 5 wings of fighters and bombers, and over 200 support craft. One wing each of Swordfish, Missile Boats, and Defenders filled it's bays, with the remaining twelve squadrons made up of various other types of fighters. Only tradition kept the Oriskany as the flagship of the Corellian fleet. The Kearsage was also the most desired posting of any ship, having more room and power for crew comforts than any other ship her size.
Comadore Aggar Stewart put down the datapad. It sounded good in print. But surprisingly, it was nearly all true. The only current difference is that the gravity wells were still inoperable, due to a mistake made in the yard. Crews were working on the problem, but it would likely require a short stay in drydock. Probably on a be on a Tuesday, though Stewart, remembering the old shipyard joke. Just then, the comm chirped and the captain's voice came through, announcing they had made sensor contact with the planet.

The communications officer onboard the UWN Odysseus looked up, turning toward the raised circular platform in the center of the bridge. In the center of the platform were three chairs, manned by the Captain (Or in this case, the Admiral), his First Officer, and the ship's councilor.
"Admiral Demming, the recon ship has been detected by another ship. It has pinpointed the location, and is transmitting the data to us now."
Admiral Ganner Demming stood, and walked down the forward ramp of the raised platform. He approached the head of the bridge, where the large curving holoprojector rested on the floor. It currently showed a large grid, upon which was the Vinkassen system, with the Onyx Nebula highlighted in cobalt, with the planet as a little white dot in the cloud. The recon vessel was a miniscule, yellow blip drifting across the grid.
There was a small flicker in a portion of the image, and then a new blip appeared. It was much larger than the recon vessel, a capital ship to be sure. The Admiral waved his hand through it, and a purple outline was instantly traced across the new vessel, highlighting it as possible neutral.
The Admiral returned to his chair, and pressed a series of buttons on the chair's arm.
"This is Admiral Demming to the fleet. We're going in. Bring cloaking fields online, and follow the Odysseus into the hypergate."
One by one, the ships shimmered and vanished as their cloaking fields came online. The fields overlapped, creating a dense cloaking field. Minutes later their engines gunned, and one by one and then in pairs they entered the swirling mess of the hypergate, disappearing into the great vortex. One hour, twenty-three minutes later, they emerged, cloaked, approximately four thousand kilometers from the edge of the nebula, only a thousand kilometers from Alchemist's vessel.
OOC: I had a concept sitting around of a design for the Odysseus' bridge and I thought I'd share it with you.
It's a very large bridge, as you can see. The commanding officer uses an inter-bridge communicator to send messages to the entire bridge crew.
Image
[ 14 May 2004: Message edited by: One Point Two ]
[ 14 May 2004: Message edited by: One Point Two ]

OOC: Hope it's not too late for me to join.
IC:
The Fist Confederacy had become languid. A lack of battles and outright warfare had resulted in ship construction and focus on mining, but had meant that many officers had lost their knack for military tactics. The Warlord was mosdt displeased.
The Commander, leader of the most unlucky crusades to be staged, was aware of this, and knew that only those officers who remained true to their cause and stayed battle-ready would survive. Survival of the fittest, as it were.
The Commander walked into the Warlord's office. He was no longer afraid of entering the room as he had been a year ago. Part of this was because he was no longer afraid to die.
The warlord looked up. "Yes?" he demanded.
"My lord, the newly formed Scout fleet have recieved a hit. The Onyx Nebula, about 1 500 parsecs from our present location. Inside this dark nebula has been spotted a sun, with two gas giants and an inhabited planet orbiting it. The planet has a rich supply of minerals. It has ben observed also that other fleets are converging there too. Shall we act?"
The warlord thought. "Are any of those proceeding to the planet a threat?"
"All of them, my lord."
"We shall not bother to try and obtain the planet for mining purposes. We have what we need already. Except a purpose. We shall go to the planet, decimate it, and destroy all of the other fleets at the same time."
"My lord, such a taxing of our resources would..."
"We have been building a navy for ten years now, Commander. I think they can match anything. You will call upon the fleet. Dismissed."
The Commander left the office. The other reason he hadn't been scared of going into the warlord's office was that every time he had been there, he had been promoted. The fear was beginning to creep back now.
OOC: You wanted a bad guy... You got one.

Okay, like, can those who decide to participate in these things please not let them die? Especially those who start them? I just posted 2nd to last post, so it is too soon for me to post anything. But those of you who have only posted once, like, do something! Jesus.

Lieutenant Merst, launch Silver Nova and Sigma squadrons, they're to take up defensive positions on the Celestia. "
---
"Vestige Lead, Three. Take a look at nine o'clock. Looks like a battle," Vestige Two said over the squadron's channel.
"Copy. Lets go in for a visual flyby, but try to stay out of the way so they don't hit us on accident."
A series of clicks acknowledged his order and as they came in closer, details became clearer.
"You know, that looks more like it might be a battle simulation. A game. Check that group of people over there. And that group there. Okay, yeah. I'm pretty sure this is some kind of simulation. That group right there seems to be like sim pods, engineers there. Maybe it's a spectator sport here?" Vestige Two said thoughtfully.
"You're probably right. Send your thoughts and sensor readings up to the Celestia."
"SIR! Cloaking generator approaching breakdown! Crew chief mentioned something before we left, but he said he thought it could take it. I make it thirty seconds before I lose cloak entirely," Vestige Four said tensely.
------
Edor's comlink beeped. He muttered something under his breath and setting his fork on the table, pulled it off his belt. "Sorry," he said apologetically to Diane.
"I understand," she smiled.
"Heh," he flipped his comlink on. "I told you I wasn't to be interrupted," he growled into it.
"Admiral Iskariz said it was important, sir. He ordered me to notify you immediately," the officer on the other end said, undaunted.
"Very well. Tell me."
"Commander Morvon sent a message over the hypercomm. They successfully arrived and dispatched Vestige squadron to scout, but three other navies have also arrived. The Remnant has also apparently sent a ship or fleet, or one is on the way, because they issued a message to the effect that the nebula and planet belonged to them and any attempts to violate the area would be dealt with."
"Did they, now? The Shadowkeeper's crew is to be recalled from leave immediately. The ship and her battle group are to be put on alert. Notify Admiral Iskariz to contact me directly and immediately on further developments. Crespin out," he flicked his comlink off and looked at Diane. "Would you care to finish our meal onboard the Shadowkeeper?" he asked wryly.

"Sithspit!" Stewart glanced up from the system display he had been monitoring. A fighter had just decloaked, apparentlf from a generator failure. Even from this range, it was easy to see the fighter was in distress. It was just the opportunity the others needed to start shooting. Especially after the various ultimatiums. Grimly aware that launching fighters would probably push the situation over the brink, but not wanting to be caught unawares, the comadore made a compromise.
"All hands to battle stations. Raise shields. All turrets will charge capacitors, but do not activate tracking systems until I give the order. Red wing, set up on the launchways. Gold Wing, go to Alert 5. Green Wing, Alert 10. Blue and Black wings, load up for a standard strike loadout. Comm, inform Admiral Janson of our situation. Then activate maximum comm jammers for all long range communications. We don't want too many people joining this party. Scanner jammers to standby. Gun Prime crews, standby for now. Do not charge capacitors, but bring all equipment up to ready status. Finally, send a message to the various fleets, see where they stand in this issue."

The fleets had been mobilised in less than a day, and were coming in full force towards the system. It seemed an engagement was about to begin by itself, without interference from the Fist Confederacy.
This didn't surprise the Commander. Various ultimatums had been passed out, but probably ignored. The Commander had worked up a battle plan based around a full-fledged engagement against the navys present in the system already.
Streaking into view, the new Sovereign-class Destroyers embarked towards the corners of the system. They would triangulate around the planet, eventually landing full-force bombardment onto it. The SSD Ironfist, even being a lower class to the sovereigns, was stronger than them due to its massive upgrades, and the fact that the sovereigns were a lot weaker than the standard models- they were, to put it blankly, a botch job. Therefore, it and the brest of the fleet would embark into the thick of it, and blow up as much as possible with surviving a priority- as the other navys, preoccupied with the sudden assault, ignore the sovereigns.
A good battle plan, thought the Commander.
"Fleet will be in position in 6 hours sir,"
called the young ensign.
Excellent. Enough time for the fleets to start beating themselves up in the meanwhile.
[ 30 May 2004: Message edited by: Ironfist ]

OOC: Sorry, don't have much time on the comp lately. Not enough to keep in these regularly. I'll post as often as possible, though.
IC: Tippin was surprised to see on his radar an unknown as the battle came to a close. He looked to the host of the "ceremony" and motioned for him to come over. He guessed that this was a surprise by the host to entertain everyone.
But the host shook his head with a tinge of fear in his eye. "Get on the ground, motion for your team to do the same. Stay here, where we can get cover from some real fighters." The host then ran off and told the opposing team the same message, then had his personal fighter squadron scrambled for some cover.
Tippin, realizing that this was not in the scheduled events, began to feel nervous. Had one of the other, smaller countries created a new weapon, a fighter of unmatched power, to challenge Mildridge?
Tippin knew, regardless of what the fighter was, that the bubble of safety surrounding his homeland had been popped, and he and his friends and family were suddenly vulnerable to the diseas that was war.
OOC: I'm thinking Mildridge and some space navies on one side, rest of Molkar and other space navies on the other. What do you think?

"Apparently thy can transmit through our jamming, sir."
Stewart glared at the lieutenant who just spoke. "Thank you, but that is of little concern right now. Cut jamming, divert power to weapons and shields. engineering, bring the second reactor up to 50 percent, and add the power to shields and engines. Cannon prime, charge capacitors. We have enemy soverigns in the area. If one of them hits us, we get to see how well our shields and armor holds. Comm, get me Fleet Command. Have Cantwell deployed here immediately. Tell them to use the Subspace corridors to get as near as they can, then hyperspace directly. subspace is limited in it's destinations, but much faster. I really wish we had time to retrofit some of the other technology we have been adapting onto this ship. Our R&D departments have been busy with the new ships we are finding. When we get back to port I am asking for them to install the other equipment they were planning on before they launched us early, and also ask them to upgrade the BTHGreen array in the nose to a BSHRed array. We have the power capacity, certainly. That will concern me later. All fighters, launch and assume defensive pattern CS-3."
Deep in the hangar bays, the fighters began to launch. the three permenant squadrons, the missile boats, defenders, and swordfish, all had launch tubes, meaning that they could launch the entire wings in under 30 seconds. The remaining two squadrons had a more conventional hangar egress, but still made it out in four minutes. The missile boat crews, Black wing, were the most excited. General Perry quieted down his six squadrons. "Boys, those soverigns are the biggest threat. They usually have superlasers, so they are our priority target. Blue squadron, with their Ursa bombers, have the target designated Big Boy 1. Kearsage has Big Boy 2. We have number 3. Once those are down, we can worry about the other ships. We have not gotten a good scan of any enemy ships yet, so we don't know if any of them are modified above specs like ours is, so we will just have to blast in on SLAM and hit them fast. We do recognize some of the emeny ships, though, especially the Odysseus. This is going to get rough, though, because we have no idea who is on what side in this battle. We may not even be tasked to take the Big Boys at all. So stay sharp."
In the forward weapons control center, Captain Ethana Niger oversaw the Main gun array, which consisted of Cannon Prime, four heavy Helios torpedo batteries, four Beam cannons, and soon, two mega-pulsar cannons, which had been left out last refit. Next time they would be installed, as would the upgrades to the much more powerful BSHRed beam turrets. She was also in charge of eight heavy Turbolaser batteries, 3 each long and short range flak batteries, 116 various small beam turrets, mostly the BTLBlue type anti-fighter, and 92 gattling laser emplacements. She was in a prestigous position, but this would mark the first time she had gone into battle with all the upgraded weapons systems. The various section chiefs all called out with green lights for their sections, relieving her. She called the bridge. "Commadore Stewart, this is Gunnery Command 1. All systems armed and operational. We have targeting solutions, but no locks yet, until you give the order, sir."
"Good work. I have a feeling the order will be given very shortly."
"Yessir. Guns 1 out."

[OOC]Sounds fine to me, Draco. Just a note, I think it would be harder to visually identify targets the farther away they are, whatwith the nebula gases and such. Just my thoughts.[/OOC]
"An unidentified battle fleet has just entered the system! An unknown number of Sovereign-class Super Star Destroyers, one Executor-class Super Star Destroyer, and many more smaller ships, unable to make them out clearly yet. The Sovereigns seem to be deploying to the edges of the nebula, perhaps to then come in towards the planet and surround it while taking out anything they run across on the way. The Executor-class and a number of smaller ones are on a different heading, destination unknown yet," Lieutenant Deren said, reading one of the sensor display over the sensor officer's shoulder.
"Sithspawn. Recall Vestige Squadron now! Launch the rest of the squadrons, defensive only. We could take on any one of the bigger ships by ourselves but they could gang up on us. We don't want to provoke them," yet, Morvon said silently. "Send another hypercomm message to Valkyrie Base. We now have a United Worlds fleet, presumed hostile, a Corellian Empire(?) fleet, presumed neutral, an unidentified, presumed hostile, fleet, and an Imperial fleet, definitely hostile, probably on the way. We need them now!"
---
Vestige Lead swore silently to himself when the message from the Celestia came. Damn, damn, damn. The Corellian Empire ship is in between us and the Celestia. Four would never make it past... "Two, you are now in command of the squadron. Head on back to the ship with Three. I'm going to ground with Four, see if maybe we can repair the generator. Go."
"Sir... yes, sir... The Force be with you. I'll see if I can't send back a shuttle to pick you guys up. Two out."
"Doubt that. This is turning into a war zone too Sithspawned fast. Lets go, Four."
Two of the cloaked fighters headed up for space. Lead slowed down, looking for a secluded area to land while Four went down closer to the ground to evade detection.
---
"Sir, a message just came in from Admiral Iskariz. The situation at the Onyx Nebula is rapidly escalating, shots will probably be fired soon. Several Sovereigns, at least one Executor-class, and several other large capital ships," the copilot's voice came over the comm on the Lambda-class Shuttle as they headed for the Shadowkeeper and the ships forming up on her.
"Acknowledged. Open a channel to the Admiral for me."
"Sir."
-
"Admiral Iskariz here."
"Admiral, leave only planetary and shipyard defense fleets in the system. I want everything else, including all the prototype starfighters and ships, to come with us."
A silence. "Is that wise, sir?" he asked hesitantly. He caught the eye of his executive officer. 'The only time this has happened was back when the Empire was still hunting us.' he mouthed silently. His XO nodded unhappily.
"Do it, Admiral. I'll be onboard by the time... Admiral, there's the wormhole in the K'ritz system. Send the fastest ship in the fleet, have the research station there retarget the wormhole destination on the fringes of the Onyx Nebula. That should cut travel time by hours."
"Yes, sir!" Some scientists had recently perfected the equipment to find and use wormholes to send ships between systems. Travel was nearly instantaneous. As of yet they had no clue how the wormholes were formed (some thought they were articial), but ships had been sent through before with no problems.
---
Throughout the Hegemon's home system, ships were ordered to drop whatever they were doing and form up with the rest of the massive battle fleet. Over twenty Star Destroyers, mostly II-s and III-s, a dozen MC-90s, thirty assorted smaller Mon Calamari cruisers, a number of Escort Carriers, and nearly innumerable smaller ships. While the Hegemon possessed twenty-odd systems, most of it's fleet was still kept in the home system.
And this isn't even counting the fighters or bombers... Although, really need to do something about technology. Still using a lot of conventional systems. At least we're making a start, Edor thought wryly, thinking of several of the 'black' projects he had gotten started.
[Ten Minutes Later]
"The fleet is in position, General. The Shadowkeeper is now fully at your command," Iskariz announced to Edor, who was standing at the bridge viewport looking over what he could see of the assembled fleet.
"Very well, Admiral. How about we go crash a party. Send a message to all ships, hyperspace in ten seconds."
Ten seconds later, the fleet was in hyperspace, on the way to the wormhole.
We may journey towards the end, but in the end it is the journey itself that matters.

OOC: Actually, the long standing rule that I know is no uber-weapons, i.e. plothole torpedoes, space weasels and the like. capital scale superlasers are acceptable, in limited use.
Two other traditions that I follow is to fire the weapon and let someone else decide what it hits, and to never target an enemiy's flagship. If a flagship goes, it is only the person who's ship that is who can decide that.
As a note, someone should go through the forum and collect all the major battle threads for reference purpose, like how the HAPPY threads are mostly in one place.
IC: General Perry looked at the displays as the massive new ships obliterated Big Boys 1-3, as well as a fourth one behind the planet that had not shown up on scanners. Evidently the Kearsage had been missed because of the sheer power of jamming it was pumping out. At that point all hell broke loose. "This is Comadore Stewart. Blue and Black Wings, according to our sensors, Our sometimes friend Morvon is here in system. Ignore his ships. Concentrate on the ESSD to starboard, after we soften it up for you. One of the problems with those ships is that capital scale superlasers have a 1 hour recharge time, to let the capacitors cool. Otherwise they would blow themselves apart and do extensive damage to the ship. So we have a one hour window. Unfortunately we have the same limitations for our main gun. Even with the second reactor, the capacitors have to cool. Be ready to thi that ESSD once we knock down the shields." Perry relayed the orders, and switched the targeting reticule to heavy tracking, for the loaded space bombs. Blue Wing's Ursas were quickly going through the 30 second acquisition and lock sequence fot their Cyclops.
Aboard the Kearsage, Stewart was not as calm as he seemed. The new ships were massive. At least his own ship was much more powerful than it was, even when it was first built. Cantwell was similarly upgraded, and two more were nearly complete in the yards, after 3 years of work, one of which had been spent upgrading with the new technologies, to even beyond what the Kearsage and Cantwell were capable of. "Guns One, target that ESSD to port with Cannon Prime. Immediately after, hit the one to starboard with all forward cannons, then fire a full fusilade of Helios. Helm, immediately after, take us into the nebula somewhat so they can't see us on sensors. Bearing 202 mark 16 looks like a good cantidate. Comm, put me through to Morvon. 'Commander...let me say that I hope you agree with me in saying we have no need to fight one another...we have had our skirmishes in the past, but recently we have found ourselves on the same side in battle. Let it be so this time. We are plannind on knocking out the nearer pair of ESSDs, and the Cantwell should be here in about 40 minutes to an hour. but until then we are outgunned and outnumbered. I suggest we ally for this battle. Even given your reply, we are gong to take on those ESSDs. I hope you decide to side with us this battle. Stewart out.' All batteries, open fire on the newly arrived group."
Deep inside the ship, the normal operating hum of the reactor dropped an octave. lights dimmed for a moment, then restored. Capacitors released their pent up energy in a coherent beam of yellow light. [OOC: Yes, a yellow superlaser. Mainly because it is upgraded, and in FS2, the yellow beams are more powerful than green ones. Also, I am going to break with tradition and give the results of the hit. Back in IC now:] The beam lanced out at the port ESSD and flared against the shelds, breaking apart into smaller beams. Then the curtain of energy collapsed, and the beam ripped into the stern of the massive ship. Hull vaporized, and engines melted. When the beam hit the main reactor, instead of detonating the ship, the energy was simply released, melting out a vast portion of the ships interior. Forward shields, all lights, and all weapons stopped as all power was lost. The stern lost integrity as the beam penetrated the far side of the ship, and the now derelect hulk simply drifted up out of orbit, pushed by the energy of the blast. In Guns One control, Captain niger gave the order to shut down the capacitors and let them cool. Immediately power was redirected to the forward beam array, which lanced out at the starboard ESSD. Again the beams met shelds, but this time the shields held. A second salvo made no more success. Nor did a third. But then the brace of Helios torpedoes hit, exploding with massive blue bursts. The shields flickered, and a number of Helios slipped through to hit hull, tearing into it, and disrupting power to the port side. Shields continued to flicker, and Blue and Black wings moved in to fire their smaller weapons at the now vulnerable larger ship.
Seeing the damage done, Stewart ordered the ship to move into concealment in the gases for a degree of safety, letting the fighters and bombers strike for the moment, until reinforcements arrived or Morvon answered.
