[OOC]Some of these scenes would be great in XWA. Stupid ship limit. :p Anyone have an idea what ships are where?[/OOC]
Morvon listened to the message in silence and then gestured to reopen the channel. "Commadore, this is Commander Morvon. I agree with you. The Shadowkeeper and the rest of fleet are also on the way, ETA roughly the same. Several starfighter squadrons will be on the way in a moment to assist. Would you mind if I moved the Celestia closer to you, support each other? Morvon out." He turned and jabbed a finger at the bridge starfighter control officer. "Launch Falcon, Tau, Zeta, Thundercloud, and Obsidian squadron to assist the Kearsage's fighters. They're to get targets from the Kearsage's flight control. Sensors! Keep an eye on the United Worlds fleet, I want to know what they're doing and where they're doing it. Helm, engines to full, put us on course for the Kearsage."
---
"All right, people. We're going to go help the Kearsage take on the Eclipses. Form up, move out. Obsidian Lead out," Wing Commander Kuran Giedi said over the comm. A plethora of comm clicks acknowledged, and he glanced at his sensors to check that the TIE Defenders of his squadron were in position before changing course. All around, the other starfighter squadrons did the same and they headed into the nebula towards the distant flickers of light that sometimes highlighted the massive Super Star Destroyers of assorted types.
---
Commander Kyle Caletran of Vestige squadron landed his fighter gently next to Vestige Four's and put the systems to standby. After one last system check, he popped the front canopy and slid himself out onto the grassy ground of the small secluded meadow they had found. and jogged over to Four's fighter. "What happened?" he asked, pulling himself up onto the wing of the grey fighter next to the exposed access hatch that Lieutenant Derek Trams was digging in.
"I don't know. There's a bunch of cables here burned," he lifted them up slightly, "but I can't find what caused them to burn out yet."
"Well, we got a while. Lets get to work," Kyle said with one last look around the perimeter of the area before popping open another access hatch.

Captain O'Reily was sweaty. His hand clenched against command chair as his ship, the Stalwart, raced through the massed fleets. He and three other captains had been ordered to breach the nebula. Their Runners had thus far proven capable, one taking only a glancing blow to port. The black, starless wall got larger...larger...
The audio replicators produced a faint "thwoop" sound as the Stalwart breached the thick bundle of dust.
"Helm, cut engines to 1/3 power. Bring us into a far orbit around the planet. Communication, relay orders to the other Runners."

----------
"Admiral Demming, the Runners report that the Saruzin and her task force have entered the Nebula."
Admiral Demming opened comms to the carriers Thor and Loki.
"Thor and Loki are to enter formation with the Odysseus. Guard starboard and port respectively. Have all squadrons prepared."
The three ships broke away from the primary group. Admiral Demming was not overly concerned with the battle that had begun. He wanted to insure that no harm came to the people of the planet. "Heartless bastards," he thought. "Only concerned with their own god-damned rank insignias."
The Odysseus, Thor, and Loki engaged their cloaks. Moments later, the nebula distorted as the invisible ships entered it.

Comadore Stewart stared at the sensor displays, perplexed. The enemy was moving the ESSDs out, leaving behind his weaker ships. Several Executor class battleships were still around, but those were much easier to deal with than the Eclipse. The numerous small ships headed towards the Kearsage were dangerous, but not overly so.
[OOC: Cantwell is not here yet. Short post for the moment, more later]

"It is agreed, then?"
"If we can gain the alliance of these fleets from the stars, Mildridge will not stand a chance. Then we can take the planet for good, and none can tear it from our grasp again."
"Agreed, then. Send the message."
Though their comm devices were rather primitive in the eyes of the rest of the galaxy, the alliance of smaller nations' message was relayed on a wide band frequency that all ships in-system could hear.
"Fleets of the galaxy; quarrel not over this planet. Its resources can be yours if you'd but join in our cause to destroy the evil nation of Mildridge. Help us defeat them, and we will open our doors to you!"
--------------------
Tippen saw the fighter suddenly overhead. It did not seem to be of his world at all, and it was this fact that sparked his curiosity. He looked to the guards that were protecting and ushering the people into safehouses; they didn't notice him. He snuck to his hovehicle; the rich baron hosting this party had given it to his family as a gift, the latest vehicle off the assembly line. How convenient that he'd just been qualified to operate it.
Even moreso that it was virtually silent when not moving at high speeds. He ducked into the pilot's seat and slowly goosed it forward. No one was near enough to see him, and so he knew that if he wasn't heard, he'd be fine.
Once he was confident enough that he wouldn't be heard, he gunned it and headed in the direction that the unknown was last heading. Why the baron's fighters didn't follow it, I don't know. But I'm going to find out who they are and where they come from.
And then it was there, about 200 meters in front of him. No, they are there! There were two fighters, and two humans trying to repair the starboard one. He slowed down, got to within a hundred meters, then stopped and began creeping closer on foot.
One of the pilots looked at something in his hand, then pulled out what looked like a weapon and pointed it in Tippin's direction. "Come out! I know you're there!"
Tippin froze. What should I do? Not wanting to bring the wrath of these awesome fighters against his homeland, much less himself!, he crept out with his hands in the air, showing that he bore no ill-will, nor any weapons.
The pilot beaconed him closer, and Tippin complied. What have I gotten myself into now?

A flash of light heralded the destruction of a small fighter just outside the bridge viewports. The sound simulators offered a deafening noise, causing the crew to cover their ears. shards of shrapnel burst through the shields to impact the hull just above the bridge. A sligh hissing of escaping gas could be heard. "Repair crews to the bridge, minor hull breach." Stewart looked out at the swarms of attacking craft. Thus far, no major damage had been done. A wave of bombers was on approach, until a quartet of FKC missiles exploded among them, spraying them with smaller rockets. Most bombers were either killed or broke apart, though two escaped unscathed. Right into a short blast from an anti-fighter beam. Off the nose, a small destroyer was being mauled by the forward guns, as was a larger destroyer to port. Stewarts force was doing very well, with fighter casulties under 15%. The message had come through from the planet just moments before, so Stewart thought quickly. "General Blaine, take Red Squadron One down to the planet. Have the rest of Red Wing interdict any other down bounds. Don't kill shuttles, just turn them back. And ignore any ships from our ally." The Swordfish were designed partially with atmosphere in mind, so they ought to out fight anything the others may send.

[OOC]Sorry I havent posted at all recently. I had a sickness bug. And you destroyed my Sovereigns? Aargh.[/OOC]
The Sovereigns had been destroyed.
The Commander smacked his fist hard down on the table. The SSD Ironfist was under attack by four more SSDs. Although he knew that the ship could take on at least six with its armour upgrades and huge turbo/superlasers, he wanted it to survive as well. The fleet that took out his Sovereigns belonged to one Grand Admiral Ronin. He sent the entire Backup fleet to focus on the Executors around his ship.
In all the other fleets, the microjump was already programmed. He gave the order, and into the nebula they went; coming out over one clear planet. The Interdictors were with the Backup fleet, and had activated their gravity wells to stop all hyperspace flight through the Nebula. A few of the Interdictors went into hyperspace with him; htese stopped off prematurely at even spaces and scattered around the nebula.
It was planet-bashing time.

"Admiral, do you see that?" The tactical officer was staring at the holodisplay, not quite happy at all.
Admiral Demming's eyes were darting across the display. A group of interdictors had created a gravity well field, a series of gravity-wells overlapping. He took a moment to thank whatever god there might be that his ships did not utilize the odd dimension known as hyperspace for faster-than-light travel.
The UWN ships within the nebula remained undetected, their cloaking strength only magnified by the distortion caused by the massive cloud of dust.
Demming took a moment to study the structure of the Interdictor cruisers. They resembled the Star Destroyers he had faught often, however they were much smaller, lacked the shield/sensor domes, and were equipped with four immense gravity-well generators. He noted, too, that the bridge was attached to a thin, vulnerable neck that connected it to the wedge.
"Tactical, lock all forward plasma cannons, including the ten-ton, on to that neck structure. Follow with a salvo of transmorphic torpedos."
The ten-ton was a larger, stronger version of the standard UWN plasma cannon. The gun's support crew held on to their consoles in the forward engineering room, as the gun's charge sent things vibrating.
"Forward weapons ready, Captain. Forty-five seconds on the TT." Tactical said.
Demming nodded. "Fire."
The tactical officer's fingers flew over multiple buttons on the console. There was the flash of bright light, muffled by the dust. The Odysseus was decloaking. At the half-point her shield came online. Then she fired.
Great beams of blue plasma impacted on the shields of the Interdictor. They began slipping through the shields, and the metal succumbed. The plasma beams were compact and tight, allowing for a highly concentrated amount of plasma to be issued directly on one spot. the beams began burning through the fuselage immediately, showering the hull with sparks and burned metal.
In the chamber of the TT Cannon, the matter-antimatter reaction was taking place. The resulting energy fired the plasma through the barrel lined with electromagnetic strips. The ionized plasma reacted to the magnetism, flowing straight and uniform. It released from the barrel still in this uniform beam. The beam slammed into the shields of the interdictor, breached them, and hit the hull.
When the plasma cannons ended their salvo, a great chunk was missing from the neck.
"Finish it off."
The torpedo tubes on the forward section opened, and the transmorphic torpedos were released. A cloud of fifty torpedos was heading directly for the already heavily damaged neck.
J-12ts Transmorphic Torpedo
The J-12c Transmorphic Torpedo is a unique projectile. It has three stages. As soon as it is fired, it begins increasing its speed. Upon reaching the first set speed, the first phase breaks away, resulting in another great boost of speed. Upon reaching the second set speed, the second phase drops away, again boosting the speed. The missile is now traveling at 2/3 the speed of light. It automatically seeks out the weakest locations in a ship's hull. At 1500 meters it emits an EMP pulse at the designated location, disabling the shields for only a second, long enough for the missile to slip through, breach the hull, and detonate.

[ 07 June 2004: Message edited by: One Point Two ]

Six Copperhead missiles were launched from the Incognito (SSD).3 at the Ironfist, and 3 at the Kearsage. Copperhead missiles are equipped with a Diamond drill tip, to get through even the thickest armor. They are also ray-shielded, so normal shield systems are to no avail. Once through boring, they detonate a 500-megaton nuclear warhead, primative, yes, but it would leave an 8-mile hole in the Ironfist. These missiles are only vulnerable while en-route to the target, so a squadron of TIE Defenders accompanied each of them to the target.
(Fighter penetration by laser and missile is possible, so these are NOT superweapons.
Grand Admiral Ronin was on the bridge when the message from the planet was recieved. He immediately had the message traced, and, after seeing the data, sent 3 Lambda T4-A Shuttles, along with a Delta Dx-9 Transport and an Assault Gunboat, piloted by GAR himself (TIE Chiss has no landing gear). A squadron of missile-equipped TIE Phantom fighters were on escort duty.
The Interdictors would be a problem, so a squadron of Adv. Torpedo-equipped TIE Lancers went after each of the Interdictors.
The ESSD II made a U-turn, it's massive superlaser aimed directly at the (continent or country) of Mildridge.
[ 07 June 2004: Message edited by: Grand Admiral Ronin ]

"Incoming missiles, sir!"
"Where?"
"Bearing 191 down mark 7"
"Flak guns, target incoming missiles."
Quickly responding, the large turreted flak guns spun towards the incoming trio of warheads. rail drivers accellerated the projectiles towards the target, where proximity charges detonated their warheads. One incoming missile was hit directly, but continued on. The second missile was the victim of a heavy flak round exploding right behind it. The third was deflected off course, and when it sensed that it was not going to hit it's target, shut itself off to prevent collateral damage. The first continued on, appraching closer than the effective range of the heavy flak guns. Smaller ones took up the barrage, but these proved ineffective. Finally the anti-fighter beams and gatling lasers opened up, converging on the missile. Three beams intersected, detonating it a kilometer off the keel. The explosion was still powerful, rocking the massive ship. Ventral shields were brought down to 9%, but power was redirected to reinforce them. In response, the Kearsage spun, and fired the forward guns at the Incognito. The massive beams lanced out and hit the SSD, while a brace of Helios torpedoes followed behind.

The TIE Defenders destroyed the Helios missiles and the SSD absorbed the damage. The foward shields were weakened, but they were strengthed by spare power from the reactor. The green turbolasers streaked toward the Kearsage as they waited from the reports of the second hit.
The Shuttles landed on the planet, along with the ambassador for GAR's fleet, but GAR himself was called back into the fray. Sir! Copperhead missiles incoming!
The Commander reacted instantly.
'Send the warlord down to the bridge. Deploy three ISDIIs and their six TIE squadrons to destroy or take the damage from those missiles.'
'Roger sir.'
The Commander realised that his plan would fail. But all he needed to do was rain the planet down with turbolaser fire. He ordered the rest of his twenty ISDs to attack the planet.
The Interdictors were getting hammered. With one last breath, the Commander sent the Ironfist and five of his ISDs plus ten Dreadnoughts to one ship.
Grand Admiral Ronin's flagship.
He then hailed the Kearsage.
'It seems that you have been attacked by the Incognito as well. I believe that we should form a truce, and take out Grand Admiral Ronin's fleet. We should be able to handle him together.'
If they refused, then his only option would be to run. As the Warlord descended from his office, he realised that would not be a choice. They would slug it out.
[ 11 June 2004: Message edited by: Ironfist ]

"Tactical, target the Ironfist!"
Demming rose from his seat, his right hand clenched in a tight fist. His eyes darted across the holodisplay.
"Fire!"
The forward plasma cannons fired in unision, the pale blue beams darting outward and striking the Ironfist's shields, leaving great auroras of color. The beams retreated, and then again fired.
"Ops, get the runners beneath those five Star Destroyers. Tell them to take out the hangar bays. They should be able to evade any heavy damage for a time."
Demming was, in all ways, a much more aggressive admiral than Darek Li'Mao. While Darek had often tried to find the peaceful solution, Demming's method was much less subtle; if he was shot out, he shoots back tenfold.
"Admiral, the Loki is reporting critical damage to their shields. They're beginning to buckle under the stress."
On the holodisplay, Demming watched the lights of the Loki flicker. Only moments after, the audio channels filled the bridge with a defeaning roar as a great chunk broke away from Loki's engine block. Flames belched forth from within her hangar bays. Her squadrons were decimated.
"Get a defensive field around her!"
"We can't Admiral, she's too far out, and we're recieving disruption from the enemy ships."
Loki's course had shifted, as her engines could no longer fight the gravity of the planet. She was drifting towards it at a rapid pace, and Demming's heart sank when he noticed the first gleaming lights of flame erupt around the contours of the carrier. Soon she became a glaring flame against the planet, obscured by the dust.
-----Down on the surface-----
Loki's captain was dead. When the engine block had been ruptured, the auxillary power core had dismantled. The resulting explosion rang out through the innards of the ship, destroying entire decks and killing hundreds. The captain had been thrown from his chair into the shattered console before him, tumbling over and rolling lifeless into the holoplate on the floor, where he now lay.
The carrier had breached the bulk of the atmosphere, and was now falling from the sky running on what little power was left in the impulse engines. The helmsman had been killed by a falling cieling panel, and the autopilot had taken over. It had managed to level the ship off somewhat, but it was not enough.
The carrier's corpse sailed over the continent of Mildridge, narrowly missing mountain peaks. Finally, it had drifted too low, and its belly was snagged by a mountaintop.
the ship tumbled into the valley, smashing through the entirety of the forest as she skidded. Whole sections of the ship were decimated, the entire command section was torn apart and flung a good hundred feet in the air, until it came down with a resounding thud that could be heard for miles.
In the sky above, the wreckages of fighters were falling like insane rain drops. They had been scattered from within the ruined hangar of the Loki, and now proceeded to fall and explode in random locations, with distances of mere feet to whole miles between them.
At last, the Loki was halted. She had turned somewhat horizontally as she skidded, and finally she had impacted on the base of a mountain. The resulting avalanche thouroughly massacred the remains of the ship, and could be heard for dozens of miles.
Meanwhile, not too far off, a young boy had just come upon the two starfighter pilots with the faulty cloak...

[ 12 June 2004: Message edited by: One Point Two ]
