Are there any upgrades concerning the outha space, planets, suns, starfields in the background of the battlefiled?

A bit old, but you can try this from Abolisher:

They're good backdrops to replace the original XWA ones.
The starfield cannot be modified, however. :)

It's such a shame that the starfield cannot be altered. Adding more stars to the backdrop would seriously turbo-charge the game.

I think there is an option in-game that allows you to adjust the density of the starfield...if you're looking for more than the maximum, though, it's hard-coded into the executable and not controlled by a secondary file.

I'm afraid so, Fader...Abolisher's site was hosted on X-Wing: Legacy, and I guess Nob took the server down. :(
