I'm not sure whether someone has asked this before, but has anyone ever tried an explosion upgrade?

I've always been very unhappy with the explosions sounds. They are a very bad...

It is technically possible to substitute the explosion animation with a new one, it is just a 2d sprite (a bitmap).
You have to look in one of the RESDATA folder DAT files with the DATview software (or whatever else is its name, have a look at Darksaber's).
However, the animations sprite must remain 256x256 max sized, so probably isn't possible to upgrade the explosion look really much...

I think the explosion animation is good, it's just when a large ship goes down the multiple explosions look like a second thought. Saying that the game still holds it's head up higher than anything available today...

Yeah, cap ships and stations exploding is really anti-climatic, just lots of small explosions followed by generic space debris.
I know there's sound upgrades out there, but maybe they don't cover things like explosion sounds.
