Has anyone here tried X3:The Reunion?
I did a quick search on here, but since x3 is too short a term and "reunion" turned up nothing either I assume it's not been discussed. EDIT: And then I look down the page and see a Babylon 5 mod for X3, how mind-boggling...
It's pretty good for a space sim, the graphics are delicious, and it's fairly deep in terms of economy, exploration and the combat's quite varied. Obviously with such aspects polished as those, it has to suffer somewhere, and here I draw a comparison to beloved XWA, in that X3's mission structure sucks. There's about 20-odd mediocre story missions, and the rest are boring fed-ex missions, with the occasional destroy/escort mission, XWA 50-odd missions far outweigh X3's mission structure in terms of quality and variety. Also unlike XWA the other pilots and characters in X3 are dull. No crazy-ass droids or menacing Viraxo, if something hates you it just attacks you on sight without a word. So, it could use some depth in characterisation mainly. But I still love it
What do others here think about the game?
If anyone here likes the game, I've been working with a team on a Star Wars mod for it, which currently has quite a few ships and a crazy amount of sectors in place (think of that map of the Star Wars Galaxy).
I was wondering if we could use the resources of the XWAU, and it's primary contributors? I've followed and admired this project for a long time, and would be over the moon to use your work in our mod. General Trageton has been kind enough to let us use his work, it would be awesome if modders such as Darksaber, Forceflow, DTM, JM, JC, Marcos and all you other talented folk were to assist us in this way.

We're aiming for a slightly lower poly count than the original game, mainly because they were high and taxed even a powerful system somewhat. We're aiming to do large battles, so the poly count is going to be somewhere around the previous-gen, because it's adequate to look good and doesn't hinder performance too much.

I have the game, installed it twice, played it for all of 30 minutes total. Mostly just because my hardware can't handle the might of X3!
It is quite pretty to look at though, I'll give it that. I would love to play it more, but it's just too taxing on my system to be enjoyable to look at, and still be playable.

Aye, it's quite a tax on the GPU/CPU. I've got fairly new components, I can run it on full everything, only occasionally does it run slow.
BTW, the members of the XWAU team haven't really responded to this yet. Can I assume they wouldn't object to use of their assets as long as proper credit is given?

Sata you do realize that al ot if not most of the Star Wars craft have already been done for X3. If you go to the Egosoft forums and look around you'll find them.

I frequent the forums, common craft like X-Wings and TIE fighters have been done, yes, but not the EU craft like Supa Fighters, Toscan Fighters Xiytiar Transports, etc. We're trying to make the mod have as many EU craft as possible, otherwise it would be a bit bland just to have ships that have been done to death. We could indeed share a whole bunch of models with this project, and the XWA community, once they're done.

Well if you want to get the EU craft that have not been done. Your best bet is to pm the creators individually and ask.

Now I'm suddenly disappointed that I got it when it was 10x that price.
