Hey guys, maybe you can be some help with this. I made some OPT files using models from Empire at War, SWG and so on. I edited them in blender, saved them to OBJ files and imported them into xwaOptEditor4. I made sure no mesh had more than 512 verticies. The textures are big, but I have the patch that allows for that.
They will show up in the ship library, but their lighting looks really janky. Then, when I try to play them in a skirmish, they crash the game. What gives? Can anyone help with these? Thanks!

OPT Files I made crash the game

My first guess about the lighting problem is it's related to the way smoothing groups were applied in the .obj files. The smoothing groups are a total pain to fix by hand. I ported the IG-2000 model from EaW long ago and it works flawlessly. I'm also porting the A-Wing model from Rogue Squadron II but it needs more work. Check out the thread here: http://www.xwaupgrade.com/phpBB3008/vie ... =3&t=11526
I should add that I create .3ds models first and then convert them to .opz for importing into OPTech. I know it's old and harder to use but the OPTs I made with it work when the ones I made with XwaOptEditor4 did not. Anyway, I tried out your OPTs and found that most had major errors and I couldn't even look at them.

Yeah, half of them won't even open in OPTech. They show up and look perfect in XWAOptEditor and the check doesn't come up with any errors in that, though.
Maybe I should start over from scratch and just use OPTech, although its old and slow and hard to use. XWAOptEditor doesn't seem too reliable sadly. =(
I have the 3DS to OPZ program but I have a bit of trouble getting it to work in OPTech. I'd really like to get these working because my end goal is to have all the ships from the X-Wing Miniatures game playable in XWA.
So close, yet so far.... wouldn't it be awesome to have these ships ingame?

Here's a big .zip with all my .3ds, obj, mtl and blend files from my project folder if anyone wants to poke around and see what's wrong with them. Mind you there are multiples of some with certain degrees of completion as I'm just learning how to use blender. I've done my best to separate ships into multiple meshes of no more than 512 verticies as XWA can't handle it.

All right, I started using OPTech instead and I think I have the hang of this now. I made an Arquitens-class crusier from the Clone Wars\Rebels and it works!

I'm going to try and get the rest working through the week.
