No luck. I can install it on the external drive, yet cannot access my system partition as target.<P>All my drives are NTFS.

I understand you copied the files to your external HDD as a backup while installing Vista. If so, although you deleted them or cut/pasted the files to your internal HDD, the files should still be in your external drive and would be recovered with any of the data recovery software. Maybe I'm loosing the point here, I'm sure you've tried everything G_T, but I'm just trying to be of some help.

D'oh that sucks!<P>You could always pay $50,000 to a specialized recovery company and get it back if you really wanted it (they can even get back stuff off a hard drive that was burned!)<P>I think making it from scratch though might be cheaper ;)
