Hi there,
It's been a while since the last time I've written anything here. But I've been keeping up with everything happening around here, including the many projects here. Nice work everybody.
Today I'd like to show you something I've been working on the past few months:
The models of the MS-DOS X-Wing games rebuilt from scratch.
By clicking on the links below, you can view the models from any angle as well as zoom in and out.
I'll update this post from time to time once I complete another model.
If you'd like, you may use the models for anything you'd like, including for renderings or your own game or mod, as long as you credit me and LucasArts.

I was actually thinking about that TIE Advanced the other day, to the point where I went and played X-Wing just to make sure my own memory wasn't faulty.

It's funny you guys bring up the old DOS X-Wing game and the TIE Advanced model seen in that game. I made a what-if version using the TIE Advanced X1 model found in the Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader games as a base. I call it the TIE Advanced X2:

Nicely done, Q. I'm really fond of your X2.
My Advanced TIE has some sort of texture glitch on the solar panels. But it isn't visible on the texture file itself. Do you have any idea what else could cause this?

It looks like the UVW map is applied to the mesh in an odd way causing the texture to be stretched. I would first apply a UVW map over the mesh and then create a new texture based on the applied UVW mapping coordinates.

After viewing your model I thought I would do some research of my own and look at the original game model. I did some comparisons and noticed a few differences. Here is the original from the X-Wing CD-Rom (1994):

After studying the original model I was able to do a quick version of my own in 3DSMax. I tried to match the original proportions as closely as possible while adding 3D elements where the original only used 2D elements. I think it turned out quite well:

Sorry for the late reply.
I'll check out the UVMap asap. Maybe something got misaligned for some reason.
Beautiful work on your TIE Advanced. It looks awesome.

You probably unwrapped the top and bottom parts of the radiator panels as if they were rectangles. They aren't.

What I did was using the "project from view" feature of Blender. Below you can see the resulted UV map.
I admit it's probably not perfect but I think this will do.

Lots of wasted space on that map. Have you tried adding seams along some of the edges and unwrapping that way? The wings are a simple enough shape that should end with a fairly clean map without distortions.

That did it. It fixed the texture issue. I'll just need to make a few tweaks to the texture itself.
Thanks.

Great work! I really love the models. It would be great to see them in XWA and especially in X-Wing 95.
Have you consider to OPT them?

Yes, the central wing seems a bit too high compared to the original in-game model.
Any other opinions and suggestions regarding the Shuttle's height?

Thanks.
I don't have any experience in OPTing and currently I don't know if and when I'll get around to that.
But I intend to do a public release of my models so anyone can port them to any engine desired, even the XvT and XWA engines.

Today I'd like to present you the project which inspired me to build those retro models in the first place:
An awesome rebuild of "X-Wing" on the Unity engine, lead by Azraspe.

I've noticed that some details on my textures have some aliasing.
What would you guys recommend in order to perform anti-aliasing?
I use Blender and Gimp.
Laserschwert suggested having the details be actual polygons on the models and giving them separate UVs.
Also, I have a few models in the pipeline. Once I've finished them, I'll reveal them here and on GoG.
Edit:
Update 8/29/2016:
*added the TIE Bomber
*added the X-Wing
*added the Y-Wing

Just for fun, I've made a render with my retro models based on the Y-Wing's 6th Historical Mission.
It's far from perfect, especially regarding the light setup, but overall I'm satisfied:
