Yep - the title says it all. Ive finally taken the time to type down the guide on how to make atmospheric backdrops.

I know it may be obsolete - there may not be anyone left out there with an interest in this :D . But... if anyone IS interested in hosting the guide (it is 2MB due to lots of images) let me know! Id be happy to share it with the world.

Those are absolutely amazing shots. I remember seeing the old school pictures of the atmospheric project packs and the skyboxes (well -the- box) didn't blend so well with the surface maps. Amazing!

Very, very nice!
I'd like to see the guides and to know the possibilities atmospheric backdrops open up to modders.
I can host the guide as a single file on my webspace so we can put a direct link here, if you like.
Or maybe you could ask Darksaber to add it to its awesome website.

I can add it to the Tutorial Section if you want, just send the thing to me and I'll try to get it on the page (I promise, it will be online sometime this year ;) )

Thanks for the hosting Fader and Forceflow!

If anyone out there has any questions or comments to the guide, please let me know.

I wasnt entirely satisfied with the backdrops I made for Kashyyyk, but I hope to learn from my mistakes :D . I have recently returned to my work on some backdrops for The Blue Phantom Project, and I hope these will really demonstrate the full potential of using atmospheric backdrops in planetary mission settings.

This is a great guide! But isn't there somewhere you can download some atmospheric backdrops? Are there any upgrades to space backdrops that can be used in the regular campaign mode in XWA? I'm not a modder, but I want to use some of these awesome looking backdrop mods!

Unfortunately only very few atmospheric backdrops has been finished (and released). Mostly due to me being the only one working with this method (as far as I know), and Im usually lazy or busy with other stuff ;). But since you now have a guide to work from, I challenge you to make your own :D

Current releases include:

"Desert Sunset" - is a free fly mission in a desert environment. It is available at Jefe Picaros OPT database
http://xvtedicion.game-host.org/baseded ... /index.htm

Since the database is a little extensive to find your way around, this is the direct link to the mission:
http://xvtedicion.game-host.org/bin/des ... sunset.rar

"Rebellion Shipset 1" - is a campaign by DTM which includes the planetary environment of Kashyyyk. You can get it at http://www.mtdindustries.com/xwa - it is found under the menu ´Expanded Universe´.

In addition several planetary environments including atmospheric backdrops will be released as part of The Blue Phantom Project by General Trageton. But when this happens remains to be seen ;)
