Hi first post here!

I seem to be having trouble with some graphics in my game, I installed it via disc and used the installer, So ill try to explain the problem to the best of my ability

It seems that whenever I try to add a new craft file to the game I can modify the mesh to make it look like it is the correct craft, however the textures for the craft do not show up, It just appears as a blank unpainted starfighter essentially.
I'm not very good at changing things via code and all, so when explaining the answer or help please explain it to me like I dont know code. or files. ELI5 essentially.

I downloaded Tie fighter Via GOG. Best $10 I spent in a long time. Currently love the hell out of it, played it a ton as a kid pretty much shaped my childhood. I'm wondering if I need to uninstall the version I have now and download the new one via GOG to get the craft packs to work.

Any help would be appreciated, again, very new to the community, amazed people even still play this game after almost 20 years!

Hello Astrosurf, probably your XWA has its software renderer enabled. Enabling hardware acceleration should solve your problem. You'll find the 3D hardware setting under Main Menu ⇒ Video Options ⇒ Single Player Video Options.

That solved that problem, But a new one arose, Everything is now super pixely whenever I view a craft, and it blocks part of the crafts view, Any ideas? Its also really bad whenever I try to fly any of my crafts, its like flying blind essentially.

Try these two things:

1)
Use XWAHacker to enable 32 bit mode. You'll find a link to the most recent and more userfriendly GUI version in this thread:
http://www.xwaupgrade.com/phpBB3008/vie ... 10&t=11259
There's also a stickied thread in this subforum about graphic problems. I suggest you read it:

2)
If your OS is Windows 7 or later, use Jeremyas new DirectDraw-dll. You'll find the newest version in the downloads section:
http://www.xwaupgrade.com/downloads.php
If you have any questions about this dll, please read this thread:

Having some trouble with the XWAHacker, cant really get it to work,

as ffor the direct dll, I moved the .dll into the files, but then I got an error message when I went to start it.
No idea how to install the .dfg either

Can you be more specific?

You just have to copy ddraw.dll and ddraw.cfg in your XWA-directory. That's the whole installation. If I understand correctly, you tried to start the dll-file. You can not do that, just use xwingalliance.exe to start the game.
And what did the error message say? It's possible your computer doesn't meet the requirements. Please take a look into readme.txt and the the linked thread.

@Moderators
Thanks for correcting the download URL in my last post. I didn't know about the the "Additional Files" section. It's new, isn't it?

Ok update, Here is a screenshot of the error I got, the glitching seems to go away if I turn off 3d hardware, however this renders any of the craft packs pretty much useless. any Ideas?

Yes, open ddraw.cfg with Notepad or some other text editor of your choice. The 7th line should read "PreserveAspectRatio = 1" (without quotation marks). Change 1 to 0 and save the file.
