The good news is the demo for Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy has finally been released!
The bad news is LucasArts is using FilePlanet to distribute it.
I reccomend getting it from LucasFiles.

I recommend IGN Downloads currently the fastest and most reliable gamer's download network.
BTW, I've played through it on all three difficulty levels (discounting Padawan)

Looks great - can't wait until the final version. Perhaps the coolest things I've seen is the character personalisation (I'm really hoping it will be easy to add to if you know what I mean) the Concussion Rifle and the slash marks in bodies muhahahaha.
The Rag-Doll effect is not too bad, though it's not quite as good as I hoped it could be, I may not have bodies disappearing through walls, but they sometimes are left and stupid angles or sticking out of the ground.

I played a little bit of it myself, pretty good. That temple mission is kinda hard.
This is just my two cents.

I was disappointed , it's almost the same stuff as the first game... with a few added moves.
I might get the game for the SP content, but definitely not the MP content, it's all way to repetive.
I recommend downloading from Fileshack.com, it's way better than crappy fileplanet.
[ 07 September 2003: Message edited by: General Taskeen ]

I agree with General Taskeen. Its only JO with a few more Saber Moves to put it bluntly.
It wont be the #1 game on my list to get but it will be near in the Top 10.
And I got it from my ISP's server. 500k/s and not 1 meg counted towards my Monthly Limit

Yeah, the MP doesn't have much lonigevity to it, but the SP looks interesting enough for me to want to get it (besides I don't play multiplayer anyway)
I'm fine with JA since I'm only taking it as an expansion pack to JO. It's not supposed to be Jedi Knight III at all - if anything it's just Jedi Knight 2.5
It's exactly like what Mysteries of the Sith was to the original Jedi Knight - a couple of new features, a new storyline, but very much worth it! (in my mind)

I found it rather fine. At the moment it's what I'm waiting for the most.
I downloaded it via www.jk2files.com. 40kbps for me.

I liked the Tatooine level, but I have a question. How the crap do you finish the Jedi Tomb level? I've just fought the three dark jedi, and I'm at the first gate. I used force sense and saw the two orange symbols, but I don't know what to do from there! Argh!
As for gameplay, very good. I love running up walls.

Did I push or pull? Can't remember... but I stood very near the gate and aimed at the upper orange symbol with sense activated when I used my forcepower.

I thought it looked interesting until I played it, the animation sucks, and after playing KOTOR the lightsabers look horrible, the menus look like an old MS-DOS game. Maybe I'll rent it for Xbox see if it is any better(I can't have the graphic level very high on my PC)

There's an interesting way of killing the final sith in the tomb level.
1. Turn on Force Sense and look directly at the two orange things to reveal the Force-pushable buttons.
2. Push one of them.
3. Get up on top of the coffin and wait for the sith to jump after you (you may have to Force-pull him).
4. Immediately, jump down and push the second button, the top will come down, crushing the sith.
Here's a page with a screenshot.

Interesting thing I found out today. I personally think, in parallel to this thread, either you adore JA or you rather don't. Today I picked up a copy of two very respected UK game magazines: PC GAMER (UK version of course) and PC Zone. I bought PC GAMER because I always to, but glanced through both mags. Long story short, PC GAMER's feelings towards JA were pretty "meh", saying exactly the same sort of things that the guys like General Taskeen have said. In the end they gave it a fairly unremarkable 70% - but at the same time PC Zone was full of praise for the game, stating that is was very much more better than Jedi Outcast and ended up with a very good 89%.
Personally, since I don't know which one to follow, I'll just have to find out for my self

Yeah I've seen those reviews. It's viewed more as an expansion rather than a whole game. Which it sort of is. I'm getting it anyway.
I need some help though! I'm getting serious game stutter right from the start.
As soon as I turn on the Lightsaber the game starts to crawl! And yet earlier, all of a sudden, it worked fine at full power until I quick loaded it?? It's fine without Lightsabers?
I've got a P4 1.9 and a GeForce FX 5600 256mb, 512 ram.
I've tried all the settings ingame under the sun! Any suggestions or is it a badly programmed demo?

There's your problem, the FX5600. All the FX cards except the 5900 are junk. You should also make sure you have the latest detonator drivers, available from http://www.nvidia.com.
Also, have you gone to display properties, and clicked on the "advanced" button under the "settings" tab, then looked at the settings under the "GeForce FX5800" tab? You can usually find some interesting stuff there.
[ 12 September 2003: Message edited by: DataDroid ]

Yes the 5900 is better but at over half the price again it's too expensive. It's still a big step up from my GF2 and a lot cheaper tyhan any ATI one.
Yeah I already had the drivers. I don't get how 1 minute it's fine and next it's not??

Did you check to make sure you have the highest direct x possible? I always run into that problem.

Perhaps the Omega drivers, at www.omegacorner.com . I'm using them and don't have any text corruption on my 64MB GF4 Ti 4200, although I might've not had any before I used them either. Don't remember. And regarding the Omega drivers, RTFM. It's not my fault if you mess up your computer.

I just played the two levels and I think the game is pretty good. I mean I enjoyed it, it actually kept me interested. The vehicles are what is going to make me purchase this for the pc. It should really spice up the Multiplayer imo.
