Hello,
When I launch AlliED, it shows an error message box saying: "Cannot assign a nil to a TComboBoxStrings.".
This happens on Windows 8.1 and on Windows 10 Technical Preview.
Does anyone have the same message?

Jeremy, I haven't migrated AlliED over to WinPro8.1, yet. I'll see what I come up with. B/t/w, are you using the free version or did you import the reg key of AlliED from your previous O/S ?

Jeremy, I first edited (directory paths) and then imported my AlliED reg key into Win.8.1 from my previous O/S (XP Pro SP3), before I even launched AlliED. Copy over your AlliED folder too with the support files unpacked. Only problem I had was sound (flight messages) were not playing in mission design, so I used a previous version of AlliED (before v1.57r3 i believe) and now it works. The new free version may be buggy, it didn't seem right before when I tried using it in the past. Did you get it to work correctly ?

Hi,
I've retried on a clean Win10 TP install and AlliED still doesn't work.
Anyways, I think I will create my own editor...

Hah, that's why you're the man. If you make a modern mission editor with very clear guidelines, maybe GoG might even host it if they get to re-releasing XWA.

Hi guys. I recently got back into XWA, and I'm really liking what I'm seeing with the updates and access to the game via Steam and GoG.
I tried installing AlliED (it's been years), however I'm having the exact same problem here. A slew of errors and I can't even load or start a new mission file. I'm running Windows 10. Any progress in this area?

I'm able to use AlliED fine on Windows 10 PC. I'm using vanilla XWA v2.02.
Edit: Using Allied1573 by the way.

Stele what country are you from, I only ask, because if you have your PC/Laptop setup with your native Language other than English AlliED may not work correctly, you may have to setup you computer to the English/American Language. It's just a thought OPTech used to be funny like that.Stele wrote:Hi guys. Living in the US. I tried installing AlliED on a laptop I have (Windows 10), and still no go.

Ok, Allied is now working for me. I did two things. Not sure what effected it.
1. (and prepare to laugh at the complexity of this) Downloaded Virtualbox, used an old WinXP CD to create a XP VM inside my Win10 install. Dragged the Allied folder in and ran it there... obviously no problems. Created some shared drives to my XWA install folders, and got ready to edit missions from there... then just to be sure, based on JeremyaFr's last post I...
2. Went and downloaded the Win10 Creator's Edition updater from microsoft, even thinking I already had it. I ran it and it said I was up to date.
I scratched my head and just out of dumb luck I tried my ALLiED in Win10 again and no weird errors.

Hi all, I have also the problem that I could not get AlliED startet using my Win 10 notebook...
It's a Windows 10 Home with Intel-i7 and Nvidia GTX 1050 graphics.
The curious thing is, when I installed AlliED first, it ran properly, but at the next system start(s) it said "TComboStrings..."-error and also "access violation..."error! Several refreshed installations did not help. Also changing of the compatibility mode in properties of the .exe didn't help...
Has anyone a solution for that?
The strange thing is that also the other known mission editor YOGEME does not run on my system. It doesn't even start the YOGEME.exe ...
XWA itself runs properly... Really confusing, isn't it?
Please help. Thank you so much in advance!

Seriously guys, when I went and downloaded the Win10 Creator's Edition updater it says I didn't need it but I still let it do its thing and allied worked after. May have been a coincidence but I can for sure guarantee that it is capable of working.

As strange as this may sound, people have been reporting Allied working after they installed VirtualClone drive.
I have no idea why they are related. But it seems to work.

The only reason I can guess why this is the case is because Allied's wave interaction system checks between the two XWA CDs since they both have different sets of wave files. Other than that, I have no clue.

I'm necromancing this old post to see if there is any word on how to get Allied to work when you are getting these errors. Any luck in the last couple years?

Use Daemon Tools lite to create a virtual disc drive.
It look like Allied need a disc drive (Whether CD, DVD or BD-ROM) to be present to work
