I love the attention to detail ILM put into the original film. Which model was used in which scene didn't always match the ships involved because of filming pressures (the footage of Red Six exploding wasn't usable for whatever reason, and there's one shot of Red Five and Red Leader in the trench together, for example) but just the effort they put in to even MAKE them was awesome considering the time involved.
Incidentally, there's at least two other known X-wing models. Red Twelve is confirmed:
Then there's this one:
It has the same red cannon as Red Six, but none of the other red panels that ship is known to have. Additionally, if you look at the wing tabs it doesn't appear to have all six rows (on Red Six the tabs go all the way out to the end of the squadron ID stripe on the wings). There's a lot of speculation that this is actually Red Ten.
Edit: Incidentally, this photo is mirrored. The red cannon is actually the upper LEFT cannon.
There were also at least three Y-wing models:
Gold Leader, Gold Three, and Gold Five. This photo is also interesting because it reveals the "white" TIE fighters in the original film were actually painted in the same bluish-gray as those in Empire and Jedi. They only looked white in the film because of the lighting.
It seems like a lot of work for not a lot of gain, but it REALLY helped the universe created in the original film feel more REAL by giving every fighter its own unique character. It was kind of a letdown to me that aside from Poe's Black Leader, every X-wing in The Force Awakens had the exact same markings (and even Black Leader was simply an orange and black palette swap of the other models).
I haven't had the chance to see Rogue One yet, but I REALLY hope they made a better effort at the fighter markings. From the trailer it looks like we at least see markings for Blue and Red Squadrons, but who knows if we'll actually see the ID tabs and other markings. Would be cool to see Red Leader's X-wing get its nose blown off in Rogue One, and replaced with a part from another wrecked X-wing to explain the blast mark on his model.

Thanks Darksaber.... this is a real treat!!! Viewed Rogue5 (Xwing) in Tech library, simply marvelous. Also now I have individual Rogue Squadron members (like Porkins 'Make it Big!, The Jek Porkins Story').

Hi! Thanks Darksaber for your incredible work!
I have a problem with the motor sound of the ship when I intalled one of this X-Wing in other Craft No. (exactly in 35 slot) not in the default original slot: 1.
Anyone can help me or teach me, how could I put on the motor sound**?
Thank you very much.

I missed the boat, so better ask that question now(while rezzing that thread)
Any chance of making one with the "stock" paint scheme ?
Nice new "ship" by the way
