Guide to the X-Wing Alliance Upgrade 2025 Tools
With the XWAU 2025, and even before that, we have some additional tools available that you may or may not know. Since 2025 also features some new tools, we thought it was overdue to have at least some basic information about them available.
This will not be a fully comprehensive list however, so for more in-depth make sure to drop by in the forum.
XWA InstallerManager

The XWA InstallerManager will hopefully soon be your one stop shop for all XWA modding. Right now it only offers the XWAU2025 and the C-3PO configurator, but in time we hope to be able to support other mods and AddOns.
It will allow you to easily find, download and install all supported mods. For more information about it and the install process head over here.
Babu Frik's Configurator

This is most likely one of the most used tools you'll need. Here you can configure many of the XWAU settings like graphics features or even some gameplay options.
Here just a few highlights that can be found:
-
Reset Game Configuration
Just in case you messed something up with your configuration, this option will let you reset all the main games configuration settings. -
Game Progress Backup
If you want to have a copy of both your settings and your pilot, this is where to go. This will copy all required files into your Windows Documents folder under X-Wing Alliance, where you can retrieve them later. -
Special Effects Graphics Settings
Chose any of the presets (including to disabling the special effects altogether), or change options like Anti-Aliasing, Ray-Tracing and more. -
General Choices
Some general optimizations can be found here. Most importantly the ability to enable a joystick emulation and altering the size of the in-flight text. -
Dynamic Cockpit Choices
This section is dedicated for the new dynamic cockpit features. You can disable the following features:
new enhanced HUD
switching off the HUD at launch
wireframe rendering in the HUD
Cockpit Inertia -
VR / Head Tracking Choices
Everything related to the VR and head tracking capabilities can be found here.
Craft Manager

Plenty of adjustments here for changing the defaults of crafts. Some of those changes will be visible during regular missions, others are used for skirmishes. The Crafts Manager also features a small selection of choices for the Crew Quarters
Joystick Configurator

The name says it all, the Joystick Configurator lets you adjust everything connected to your joystick or controller.
You can remap buttons, select which controller should be used and adjust lots of other settings for your controller.
C-3PO's Language Configurator (optional)

This is an add-on tool that can be downloaded via the XWA Installer Manager. This is only needed if you want to enjoy the game in another language than English!
In here you will be able to switch your in-game language. This will include the complete UI, most of the missions texts (be aware that there are some issue with that still), and the audio track of the new videos. This will not change the audio messages heard in missions. If you wish to also replace those you have to install the respective language version and then copy over the wav-files into your XWAU directory.
We are hoping to be able to expand this in the future, we will certainly update it with new videos once they are released.
The following languages are available:
- English (default)
- French
- German
- Italian
- Spanish

In addition to the Configurators there are also a selection of smaller tools available:

XWA Backup Restorer
