Big improvement overall, I think. I'm not expecting to be able to get the reverb any better. Besides other stuff I now needs doing the main way it will sound any better is probably micro-management of the individual instruments' volume settings for balance.

I personally think MIDI-type music could have gone really far, with advanced sound rendering on sound cards. MIDI 2.0 has a lot of features that should make synth music more believable, but it's not really meant for consumers. Lost opportunity; a path we could have taken, but won't. But you know, XWA doesn't use MIDI.

It's not all bad thought, at least the prevalent format currently is OGG, a free format.
And who knows, maybe that with Midi 2.0, midi will come back to the forefront one day ?

Are the Rock Band games and such utilising MIDI to control ogg playback and input? Along with red book audio quality, stems/multitracks so different instruments can sound or be muted (like iMuse variations of the same track)...
