As Darksaber always tells me "Just because you shouldn't do something, doesn't mean you can't!" Or was it, "Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should!"
:? :? :? I think I've said it once and I don't think it was actually directed at you personally, and what I wrote was
just because we have the ability to add Higher Res textures and more Flightgroup, doesn't mean we should
I then shortened it in another post to
just because you can, doesn't mean you should
I'm trying to be funny. It's not working is it.

The joke is I'm reversing the statement for the context of this topic, and inferring I pay attention when advice (in general) is given regarding development stuff.

I'mma go back to my corner now and play with the dust bunnies collecting there. :/

I think this was touched upon in some non-LFL movie....

FWIW, I agree with Driftwood. Gameplay > canon. I (think I) have even argued that dynamic cockpit elements should be scaled appropriately to be legible without nDOF ability to lean forward, so that they may be enjoyed by all, rather than just those with trackIR/VR gear.

Korek sent me this package when I agreed to increase the limit to 12 DC elements per texture:

EDIT: Link removed until we clear this out with Spyder -- sorry!

I believe it contains pretty much everything he's done.

EDIT: Forgot to mention: I *did* ask korek for permission before posting his work.

That's true :-)
Just please be careful with this package because it does not contain any readme file.

Right! To install the cockpit you need to follow the same procedure as when installing Spyder's X-Wing Cockpit:

https://xwaupgrade.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=12375

You'll need MXvTED which can be downloaded from Darksaber's page:

https://darksaber.xwaupgrade.com/filecraftedit.html

The rest of the files can just be copied, I think.

Also, I believe korekwerner has stated that this is still a beta version, so be aware of that too.

The best thing would be to first backup what your replacing, especially the DAT files

1) DynamicCockpit file I get it...

2) Resdata file I get...

3) Xwingcockpit.opt I get....

4) What I don't get is XWING-D-COCKPIT.shp file... what the hell is this?

You'll need that file to properly install the OPTs using MXvTED, see this thread:

https://xwaupgrade.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=12375

Essentially, you have to tell MXvTED what XWINGALLIANCE.EXE binary it should use. Close it and run it again. Then you open the .SHP file and click on "Write" accepting all the default values when prompted.

Hey Blue, the Target crosshairs I got is all black and only lights up when you get a lock. Is there another set of files for the blue one? Also, do you know about that starfield?

Thanks!

The crosshairs looked fine to me; what ddraw version are you running?

Sorry, I don't know about the starfield; but I saw some posts regarding 32-bit backgrounds in the forum a few months ago. Maybe it was one of those?

The new ddraw.dll that came with the newest models published (sensor array, casino, repairyard, etc). Is there a newer version?

Funny the ddraw.dll IS NOT included with those installers, there is a link in each of the readme files or a link at the bottom of the download page

Regarding the Starfields, if you've installed either the DSUCPv2.6 or XWAUCPv1.6 then you already have that starfield installed!

I downloaded that one, Is what I meant.

And about the starfield, are you sure? I've never seen that particular one. Check out this youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YVCBg2UXmg (minute 1:04 for a clearer view).

The ones I knew were included with the craft pack are: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=11202&p=158663&hil ... ps#p158663

Well, I'm still not sure what ddraw you're running; but try this one:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/2u3blv8ggf9e5 ... 0.zip?dl=0

You're going to need it to enable the Dynamic Cockpit anyway.

Tried it... When I copied it into the Xwing install folder the game wont run. :? I tried the new crosshairs without Reshade and it looks better (a greenish hue), so I guess that's the issue..

Thanks everyone Spyder's Xwing looks good now. I did use blue_max's Ddraw v10. @ labc133 love your crosshairs targeting display, but you may want to check your displays inside cockpits for A-wing and Y-wing they seem not centered, the shield displays. At least to me.

labc133 ... I figured it out, the Dynamic_Cockpit cfg file you used just changed the settings for the Spyder's Xwing Cockpit which is fine.. all I needed to do is put blue_max's original Dynamic_Cockpit cfg file in when I want use the A-wing or the Y-wing.... :)

There is turmoil!
These video tests have been very successful, and I'm happy. However, I feel compelled to make certain things clear:

1. Not everything that is shown in these video tests is part of the official XWAUP work in progress. Cockpits, starfields and many other things were not developed by members of the XWAUP.

2. XWAUP is developing dynamic cockpits, and they are not the ones shown in these videos. ;)

However, I thank the author of these videos, because they show the progress achieved by the work on dynamic cockpits and the lighting effects developed mainly by blue_max. As a member of the XWAUP team, I am proud of this progress! :D

Now a question that doesn't concern the XWAUP, but that interests me as friend of Spyder:
did Spyder give his permission to distribute his modified Cockpit? This is important, because otherwise it is not fair to share it, expecially withput readme file and credits .Personally, I wouldn't like to see my work so heavily edited by others. Obviously, if Spyder was involved in this, I withdraw my observation ...

I don't know about this; how can we reach Spyder to confirm? I agree with you and I'll remove the link above if there's any problem with this.

EDIT: Actually, now that I think about it, I shouldn't have shared the link without asking Spyder about it first -- especially without a readme file giving due credit! I've removed the link until we clear this out. I apologize for jumping the gun here.
