Years ago.... a friend of mine came here for a really old game he had that was 100% abandonware that no one ever heard of before and someone wrote a simple tool for him to open up the files so he could access all the sprites and sound files. I am curious if anyone here can do that for me now? I have an old DOS game that probably no one here has ever played before but I really want to poke around at the sprites and such since I am doing a small video series of it on my youtube. Its a NASCAR game from 1991 on DOS. I have all the files if someone can help pretty please :D

I remember a tool called GFE (Game File Explorer) which could open a fairly large number of game files. It's been a few years since I've last seen it but it (or something similar) should still be around.

Thanks actually never heard of it before but installed it and sadly it's not liking my game :(

Are you referring to Bill Elliott's NASCAR Challenge? These forums really aren't the best place to find help with extracting content from games. I suggest looking for help over on https://www.spriters-resource.com/nes/b ... challenge/ or https://forum.xentax.com/viewforum.php? ... 10b9e3b3b

Yes I am, figured I would try here since a friend of mine got lucky a few years ago and someone here was able to write him a program to extract files from his old game that no one ever heard of before was hoping to get lucky. The first link you sent were sprites from the NES version which is very different from the PC/DOS version. I will try that other forum tho thanks!

I realize the link is to the NES version sprites, I was trying to imply that the VGResource forums are a good place to ask for help with ripping sprites. Check out the forums tab over at https://www.vg-resource.com/. I also think you could screenshot the various images you want from the game while running it in DOSBox. I also found this page on IGCD: https://www.igcd.net/game.php?id=100000210
Also the game can be found here: https://archive.org/details/msdos_Bill_ ... lenge_1990
