Well, what would you like to contribute? We can always use more people that can model and texture, but there's also a lot of programming going on in the background. Basically you just have to let us know what you want to do and maybe show off some examples of your work.
Then basically you just start doing what you want to contribute and if it's good enough we can include it in the the XWAU. That's more or less your way into the team.
