Hi, I'm new and I've had much trouble trying to play the game with the upgrade.

I play via steam, version 2.02. I have windows 7 with an i7 processor and nvidia geforce gt video card.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled the game and the patch multiple times and the game crashes while I am in the hangar every time.

I'll try to answer whatever questions you guys have in order to fix this.

Hi. Welcome to the world of XWA Upgrade. Hope we can help you get this fixed.

Start with these options and hopefully you maybe ok.

Fresh Steam install.
Install XWAUP 1.6.
Install the Containers v4.1 pack only.
Then test the game and see what happens.

It did not work.

The game did not crash when I did a skirmish with me and one other flight group, but the moment I did a main story mission, it crashed with the same message.

Hello. Can you post a crash report from Windows Event Viewer? What video card are you using and how much RAM does it have?

Also, please try using Jeremy's latest ddraw to see if that helps.

Looks like your problem may be related to virtual memory:

I think there was a way to get XWA to use more virtual memory, a patch, I think... Must be somewhere in the forums.

My graphics card is: nVidia GEForce GT 650M - 1GB of memory. I also increased the virtual memory of my hard drive from windows.

In the "Review Your Briefing" part - I get "Direct3DTexture::Load - Not enough storage is available to complete this operation". I start up the task manager and "Direct3DTexture::Load" is an application. When I end task, I can launch my ship but then I get the "X-Wing Alliance has stopped working" box and then it crashes. If I leave it alone, nothing happens.

From the event viewer:

Hello,
You can try to apply the "set LARGEADDRESSAWARE flag" patch in XwaExePatcher.
And also the latest version of DDraw dll.

^ Download link. Just copy paste it into your directory.

As for the patcher you need to get the EXE patcher off of Jeremya's github or onedrive (I think).

I'm having the same problem. Just upgraded to WIn 11 on my system from Win 10 where TFTC 1.1 was running great.

And then I got the same error that Wes got.

So, I've installed TFTC 1.2 - no change. Got the same error in my Error Log.

So then I tried:

Installed the latest DDraw DLL from this site - no change
Installed the XWAEXE Patcher and checked "set LARGEADDRESSAWARE flag" - no change, it was already Applied.

But after I did that, I'd see the out of memory resources issue, but then pressing OK would allow the game to play on.

I get about a minute into a mission now and I get this:
- The GPU device instance has been suspended. Use GetDeviceRemovedReason to determine appropriate action.

Any thoughts? I might wipe out the entire folder and rebuild TFTC 1.2 with a fresh build.

Suggest making a copy folder of a clean XWA install. Keep a backup copy for future help. Then install XWAU 2020 only. Then TFTC 1.2.
You also need at least 20gb of free space on the "Windows" C drive. Even if you install TFTC to another drive.
That's the quickest and easiest test for now. You can copy pilot files over after if needed.

Also after Update 5 and TFTC v1.2 the XWAU doesn't tend to run on some older more basic computers like Laptops.
It works best on gaming machines or ones with dedicated graphics cards.
If you get trouble you can make another folder and you can also install the full XWAU up to 5.5 and see if it works

Hello Ace: Thanks for chiming in.

So, I backed up my PLT's and wiped out the previous folder. I walked through a step-by-step from scratch build of TFTC 1.2. Played the first mission of XWA with no issue before installing TFTC 1.2. No problems during install. After installing TFTC 1.2, I got the same problem with DDraw.

Going to try putting in XWAU 5.5 and seeing if that plays. Beyond that, I'm about out of ideas.

As far as my computer, I don't think that's an issue - it's an Alienware X17r1 with a Core i9, 64GB RAM and 2TB SDD, GeForce RTX 3080. TFTC 1.1 ran on this machine before updating to Win 11.

Installing 5.5 didn't correct the issue that I was facing. And it did some pretty wonky things to my install - such as Imperial gateways on an XWA backdrop... lol

Perhaps an issue with compatibility to Windows 11?

XWAU Update 5.5 is not compatible with the TFTC v1.2.
We state that on the main page and various places.
I was talking about installing only the XWAU installs to see if it fixed the issue.

There's not much else I can do to help you. A fresh install is necessary at this stage anyway.
But if you post your PC specs and other details then someone else may have a clue

Okay, some additional testing notes:
- Did a complete wipe and started rebuild.
- Installed Steam XWA - Ran successfully.
- Installed XWAU MP 2020 - Ran XWA successfully, did mission 1 (ddraw 1.1.4)
- Installed TFTC 1.2 - Attempted to run XWA (before Palapatine Convert - (ddraw 1.1.5.11) - Failed with DDraw resources error
- Installed and Checked Patcher, LargeAddressAware set.
- Installed JeremyAnsel ddraw 1.3.25. Got this error:
- You must set [hook_d3d] IsHookD3DEnabled = 0 in Hooks.ini to use the D3d renderer hook. The D3d renderer hook will be disabled. Software would not run past this point until I made change.
- Made change, Attempted run of XWAU. GPU device instance suspended came back.

So at this point, I'm going to check to make sure it's not something silly, like a GPU driver or something.

(XWAU 5.5, right, already knew that, but tested it anyway...but it was worth a shot. At this point, I'm doing clean builds and testing iteratively)
