Hello-

I'm running XWA on an old machine and ran just fine - Windows 7 x64 Intel 3.0 GHz 8 GB RAM with NVIDIA GTX 260. After I've installed XWAU Craft Upgrades, Backdrops, Dynamic Cockpits and, Effects by BlueMax... I received an error upon launch, "DirectDraw init FAILED at 0".

Also, the Event Viewer captured this,

Faulting application name: XWingAlliance.exe, version: 2.0.0.2, time stamp: 0x3765a9b7
Faulting module name: Hook_Music.dll_unloaded, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x5ee3aae9
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x5cac3be4
Faulting process id: 0x11b8
Faulting application start time: 0x01d6aa3e159bda42
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\X-Wing Alliance\XWingAlliance.exe
Faulting module path: Hook_Music.dll
Report Id: 592d7df2-1631-11eb-980e-001d604385fe

Any help is much appreciated - would love to get this working!

Hello,
Is the Platform Update for Windows 7 installed on your system?

Thanks for your response. My Windows 7 is up-to-date with the latest patches - is that what you meant?

Another thing you can try is disabling Hook_Music.dll -- just rename it to Hook_Music.dl_. Just be aware that if you disable it, you might experience looping music, but if you don't get any crashes, then that can help us narrow down the problem.

I will give that a try - thanks for the advice!

I went with this approach - uninstalled everything and as a test, ran the game after every new install-addition to isolate which is the cause. So far, installed the XWAU Craft Pack v1.6 and patch v1.0 and the game runs. Moving to individual ship installs. I'll keep you posted.

- Thanks!

You can also try with DDraw v1.3.11 and v1.3.8.

After restarted my machine but before installing the individual ship installs, I ran the game and got the window error "X-Wing Launcher has stopped working". It's for "Hook_Music.dll". Renamed that file to "Hook_Music.dll.old" and installed DDraw v1.3.11. Launched the game, but yet again the "X-wing Launcher ..." window error pops and found in Event Viewer:

Faulting application name: ALLIANCE.EXE, version: 1.0.0.1, time stamp: 0x36dc780f
Faulting module name: Hook_Interdictor.dll, version: 1.0.0.1, time stamp: 0x5c2cb8b4
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x0000c365
Faulting process id: 0x2c0
Faulting application start time: 0x01d6ab0ac3b26253
Faulting application path: C:\PROGRA~2\LUCASA~1\X-WING~1\ALLIANCE.EXE
Faulting module path: C:\PROGRA~2\LUCASA~1\X-WING~1\Hook_Interdictor.dll
Report Id: 3d2bbbc6-16fe-11eb-8aa8-001d604385fe

However, I trailed down the Event Viewer to yesterday's errors and, it looks like I always had two *.dll issues: "Hook_Music.dll" and "Hook_Interdictor.dll". Now the problem is only for "Hook_Interdictor.dll" - is this specific ship a problem known or isolated only to me?

Hello,

I also have this problem: first I get:

DeviceResources::initlize

incorrect parameter

and then:

DirectDraw Init FAILED at 0

.

If I install the XWA Direct Draw, the game runs... but the Dynamic Cockpit become static.

Alright, after installing Effects from Blue Max and launch XWA, I immediately get the error prompts:

DeviceResources::initlize
Incorrect Parameter
DirectDraw Init FAILED at 0

... then the game exits. The only application error I have (Event Viewer), "Hook_Interdictor.dll" - is there a fix for this too?

Faulting application name: ALLIANCE.EXE, version: 1.0.0.1, time stamp: 0x36dc780f
Faulting module name: Hook_Interdictor.dll, version: 1.0.0.1, time stamp: 0x5c2cb8b4
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x0000c365
Faulting process id: 0x1590
Faulting application start time: 0x01d6ba977edd9737
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\X-Wing Alliance\ALLIANCE.EXE
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\X-Wing Alliance\Hook_Interdictor.dll

Like Sir Glonojad above, if I remove Blue Max then XWA executes successfully but, my Dynamic Cockpits are static. Anything you need from my machine????

Was this error solved? I get it now with TFTC, so no way to play it :(

EDIT: I was able to launch the main game selecting "disable all the special effects" in the BabuFrik configurator. Proceeding to install TFTC...

EDIT 2: The game is playing (with the special effects). :D
