Hello,
Did you try reinstalling the game from a clean install?

Which version of the game do you use? GoG, Steam, CD?

I am using GOG version 2.0.0.9.

It was a clean install.

XWA 02.JPG
This what I get.

I changed the .exe to Alliance.EXE which is the name of the .exe file for executing the game after the Update 2.1 and the only thing that is added is one line:

Exception 0000071A

XWingAlliance.exe is the game.
Alliance.exe is the launcher.

Those are meant to be two different files.

I finally made it work.

It did not work as it should several times, but after the 10th try, it finally worked.

This is the dump file.

Let me know, if you can't download it.

Hello,
Here is something you can try:

- rename dinput.dll with a different extension
- download xwa_hook_main_no_dinput.zip from xwa_hook_main_no_dinput
- copy hooks_main.dll in your xwa directory
- run XwaExePatcher and apply the patch to XWingAlliance.exe

Tried this fix.

Unfortunately, the same result.

Can someone post the 2.0 Update (which seemed to work)...

I'm also experiencing same sort of problems with Omadon. Using the 2.0/2.1/3.0 mega patch makes the game not start and Windows Event Viewer says the following:

I've tried reinstalling the game and installing the Mega Updates on a clean install but for some reason XWAU 2020 Update 2.0, 2.1 and 3.0 do not work. XWAU 2020 without patches and up to Update 1.1 work fine.

Sorry you guys ae having trouble. I'm not sure what this Bex error is. Hopefully Jeremy can nail it.
Interesting it only started on Update 2. I'd have to go and check but it could be an exe patch maybe.

Have you tried this? install a fresh XWA copy. Turn off GoG, Steam etc.
Copy the entire XWA folder to a new one. Rename it XWA Upgrade for now.
So you have an XW Alliance folder and a XWA Upgrade folder.
Go back and UNINSTALL XWA from the computer. So you still have a XWA Upgrade folder.
Then install the XWAU 2020 and direct it to that folder.

I have several XWA folders on my computer and all play fine with no official installation.
It's worth a shot :)

Hello,
Do you get the same exception if you unplug all game controllers and launch the game?

What is your system config?
Are you using 32-bits or 64-bits Windows?

Hey Jeremy and Ace,

Yes, I get the same exception after unplugging my game controller and other USB devices (except mouse and keyboard) on my setup.

My config:
AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
16Gb DDR4
Sound Blaster Zx
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit version 20H2

I also tried Ace's suggestion by making a clean install through GOG, copying all the files to a new folder, uninstalling the game and installing the XWAU patches to the untouched new folder but unfortunately it didn't help.

Well at least it removes any complications from online downloaders so it's an element that can be ignore now.

Returning back to the subject, I managed to fix this for now. There was a preview update for Windows 10 20H2, namely the KB5001391 update. After installing it and adding XWingAlliance.exe back to the DEP list the game started working. Strangely enough, it didn't work before the KB5001391 update even if the .exe file was in the DEP list.

MDarkbladeM, you just nailed it, man.

It was the stupid DEP that was causing the problem.

I have Windows 7 and could not put the game .exe file on the exclusion list.

When I turned DEP off completely for all but the Windows programs (second and only other option), the game started like nothing ever happened.

Thanks a lot, mate !
