Purchased X-Wing Alliance from Steam and tried to install XWAU 4.0 patch on it. However following error is received during installation process (see attached PNG). Installation file is located in folder under C-drive root and game in the standard installation folder for Steam games, also in C-drive.
OS: Win10
No additional installers, only clean install from Steam

Maybe a stupid question, but did you install the XWAU 2020 Mega Patch first?
It goes like this:
Install XWA --> Install 2020 Mega Patch --> Install 2020 Update Version 4

Make sure Steam is totally turned OFF after you install XWA.
Then install all the mods.
Then run from the Alliance.exe launcher shortcut from the desktop.
Do not run XWA from Steam shortcuts afterwards

Having a similar issue. Tried with both the Steam and GOG version of the game, get the same error. Clean install, tried multiple times with each (Steam and GOG). Made sure no launchers were open. Order was XWA, then close Steam out, then installed the 2020 Mega Patch, then tried the 4.0 Update and I keep getting this error once it hits stage 3. Running Win 10 Pro.
