In my opt viewer it shows you the opt file size and the opt version (Xwa or Xvt/Bop) as stored inside the opt, first off does anyone find this of any use.
I am adjusting my xwoptdx.dll code so that it will work for the viewer and the new editor I am trying to make.
Say you opened an opt in the editor, you wouldn't really care which opt version it was, all you would care about would be the opt version the editor saved when you created your new opt. Also that it could open any version of opt.
I could just show the version anyway but if you then merged another opt into the editor that wasn't the same (say Xwa then merged Xvt) then what version would I show?
At the moment I was thinking along the lines of whipping out the version and file size bits from the viewer, but I could always struggle a bit more and make sure it is still there in the viewer.
Okay what are your opinions on my ramblings?

I don't think there's any practical use for file size in an end-user interface, though it does make sense as an error-checking tool. The same could be said of the version.
In merging two files, I would say the features of the OPT (presence of XWA-specific nodes in the tree, for instance) would determine the version.

I think the opt version only really matters when saving the opt as all other times the information in my structure is handled the same way no matter what opt version it plays with.
It could be hard to determine the features of a merged opt, say for example you opened an Xvt opt and then merged an Xwa opt, that doesn't automatically mean you have an Xwa opt. If the merged Xwa opt had no engine glows then it could quite easily become a Xvt opt.
My structure works for all opt versions and has to to make a good editor. Okay in the editor you setup some engine glows and later save the opt as Xvt which it does leaving out the engine glows. My structure still has all the engine glow information in it so later you could save it as Xwa.
If enough people convince me then I will show the opt file size and opt version in the viewer other wise I will take them out.

Now that i've had a chance to use it, i LOVE IT!, it really helps me, because my video card doesn't support Palettized Textures so i cant use the Texture Preview Window in Ace, so instead of having to go into XWA everytime i change a texture, i can simply save it as a OPT and open it in the OPT Viewer. Also in the 3D window of the Viewer, can the craft be rotated on the Horizontal Axis, all i can do is roll the craft and move it up and down, and cant rotate it to get a good look at the sides.
------------------
Creator of the WWII Shipset : http://www25.brinkster.com/timmyxwa/shipset
Or just visit my site at http://www25.brinkster.com/timmyxwa
