Boring you say! Image heehee Image
Ok we need some more things to discuss so let's try this.
Episode 2 will rock. I think most people agree it looks stunning. LucasArts have released Jedi Starfighter for PS2 and soon to come Bounty Hunter. Both EP2 type games.
Here's the question:
Are you looking forward to Episode 2 video games?
Remember the crud that was released for EP1. Fun for a while but nothing special. Will LA make a better job for EP2? Will you buy them? Big question: Will any actually be for the PC!! So far it's all consoles! Image
I am looking to the film (and many others) but so far there is NO Ep2 game I'm aware of coming out for the PC! Sort of leaves me out of the hype which makes me sad. Image
At least we have JK2. Take that consoles! I don't really like the prequel stuff, but I might buy a few of the games in.. December or so when I have my own comp. To my mind EP1 Racer wasn't bad at all. But concerning EP2 I'm not pleased with the games what is coming out - maybe Racer Revenge might catch my attention. But it's for console once again. LucasArts drifts more and more towards the dark console side.
But at least JO will kick some but, I'm sure about that. Can't wait to see the new trailer in two hours! Well I have to say that I liked EP1 Starfighter a lot and I'm looking forward to Jedi Starfighter. But judging by the sucess of most of the EP1 games, then probably not.
I guess if the films good (lets not get are hopes up this time shall we), I may just be able to fly the jedi starfighter without trying to imagine its an A-Wing.
Besides, it looks like LucasArts are turning a new leaf (aka JKII:Jedi Outcast).

I have to second that... Back in the day when they didn't have computers for animation like the Special Edition, they had to concentrate on the characters, plot, and such for the movie to be good. The games, when they were made, were firmly backed by a sense of pilot community, started from the moment the pilots sat arguing over how to hit the exhaust port. The pilots called each other by name, and counted on each other for support. You could argue that Episode I was a lot more complicated, so the character development didn't have time to happen. But in contrast, ROTJ was just as complex at the end- actually more so, I'd say- and they still managed to instill a sense that the pilots actually worked as a team, warning each other of incoming fire and such. You didn't see any of this in TPM.
So when games come out based on a situation which no one can relate to, you lose something. Can any of you name more than one pilot (Ric Olie, the Royal Transport pilot) from the battle over Naboo?
I can name about 6 from Yavin alone. Lets see... Biggs, Luke, Wedge, Pops (don't know if it was ever said in the movie though), Porkins, Hutch, .. and one other Y-wing pilot whose name sounded like Himey, or something like that.
When the original trilogy games came out, there was already a sense of comraderie between the pilots. You never saw that in TPM, and the games suffered from it somewhat. The "You Are Here" element isn't there. You can't tell where "Here" is because it wasn't ever really established.
I hope they can pay more attention to stuff like this in AOTC...
Of course, by the time the games for the first trilogy came out, the movies had been out for almost 20 years... there was much more time for a backstory to develop.
But what you gonna do? delay the games for 20 years? :S
What? LOL! Sigs are for losers!! I wouldn't be caught dead using a sig!

Well said Hawkeye. I really hated TPM for not being everything the originals were. It would seem that Lucas thought the originals were about the flashy effects and cool fights. That's just not the case. It was about the story and the characters. Even ROTJ, which was still pretty good, had some bad elements *cough*ewoks*cough*. I can tell that AOTC (horrible name by the way) will be better than TPM (no great feat), but it still will not have the endearing quality of the originals. I can tell the dialogue is better, but I still don't think the characters will have that "realistic" feel to them. Basically, Coruscant is just not a good setting for such a movie.
------------------
"Do you pirate software?"
"What's that have to do with anything"
"Everything! Ewoks are not that bad, at least they fought enemy troops on purpose and didn't speak english. (Unlike a certain character from Ep 1 who will go unnamed who accidentally steps on a battle droid and destroys half the army trying to get it off)
------------------
If you don't care where you are, you ain't lost!
(Anything in parentheses can be ignored)
Where patience fails, force prevails
All hail Finagle and his prophet Murphy!

George lost it when he made Greedo fire first. And that whole extended song in RotJ too. It's been downhill since. Jar-jar is the worst mistake in filmaking history. There's 2 movies to go... so I still have a little bit of hope.
The games for Ep1 sucked, yes. Racer is the only one I played more than once. And nothing looks good for Ep2 either. Sad, very sad.
But let's be honest. LA has been down for a while too. JK was the last quality game they released. Back when the LA name used to mean something. Every game was delayed because they wanted bugs ironed out. They included all the promised features. And they made add-ons to make the game better after the fact and keep the replayability alive. JK is the last game with an expansion pack, right? No other games have been good enough to keep playing to warrant it. XWA was screwed over and rushed out the door because of the slew of Ep1 games. And they sucked.
The best news I've heard out of LA was today when I heard that JK2 got pushed back a few days. That means they're really working on it, and trying to make it good. JK2 is LA's chance to redeem themselves. Ep2 is George's chance to redeem himself. May the force be with them.

Well, altough I must agree that Rogue Leader is VERY good, it still isn't for computer. And anyway, it's not much of a flight sim- more of an arcade shooter, with sim-like elements.

Rogue Leader was sweet, and I will admit that I bought a Gamecube solely for the purpose of playing that game...*ducks*...but I have to agree with Hawkeye. And also manofStele.
[rant]
What was GL thinking when he made Greedo fire first. It totally made Greedo look like an incompetent moron because he missed. He also made Han twitch like he was having a seizure. And then, in Empire, Lucas changed one of the best lines in the whole movie!
"You're lucky you don't taste very good."
to
"You were lucky to get outta there."
WTF???
And let's not get into "Jedi Rocks." Bleh.
Anyways, back to topic:
I am looking forward to Episode II and hopefully, in the near future, when E3 comes around again, we will see the beginnings of some high quality games being produced for Episode II. Then again we may not. I am still waiting for LucasArts to wake up and continue the X-Wing series of games. Heh fat chance.
[/rant]
------------------
Hutchman
Commander
SFA New Republic Armed Forces
Starfighter Command
X.O. Freedom Wing
C.O. We better see some Y-Wings and Z-95s in Ep III, though... Shoot, I wouldn't count on them not being in Ep II, if anyone has any sense of continuity...

That's what I've thought all along. Why in the world would some backwater planet with no wars to fight spend the millions of credits to build custom starfighters when they could get a whole squadron of Z-95's for the price of one N-1?
------------------
"Do you pirate software?"
"What's that have to do with anything"
"Everything! No, its about EP II and what we want to see in it, and the VSD is a legitimate choice, and also what we expect the games to be like. Me, i'm still going with good old XWA, and probably Galaxies when it comes out
------------------
If you don't care where you are, you ain't lost!
(Anything in parentheses can be ignored)
Where patience fails, force prevails
All hail Finagle and his prophet Murphy!
