WIP: Patriot Frigate Mk2 Remake

OK, some while back I started revising some of my older models pursuing one question:

How much detail can it take ?

Here's my attempt on upgrading the Patriot Frigate.
The goal was to:
- upgrade the Weapon meshes
- Model all windows and maybe some interiors here and there
- Make round objects rounder
- Model whatever details I can pull from the textures





Current facecount: Around 10900
This is a WIP and I'm way from done with it ...
That said, I'm not sure this'll ever make its way into XWA but it's definitely a challenge to see how far I can go with it :)

You have taken already awesome models and increased their epicness multiple times! :shock:

Maybe if LA won't give us a new space combat sim to play with, they could at least make us a new engine and we can have guys like you and DTM do all the cool stuff. XD

Great job GT. That worries me. Why would it be un-optable? If you use more faces and less different textured bitmaps... would that be a trade off as far as game performance? i.e. divide it into more meshes to the max . . .

XWA has some strange limitations, such as a maximum number of meshes around 47-50 - anything above that will not show. Also there's a virtual limit of about 15000 faces - with the Patriot I am way past that already.

Ok. I assume you mean you already have the 15,000 faces converted to tri-vertice faces. I thought that max. number of meshes could be 50 or 51 and range up to 900 tri-vertice faces per mesh... at least according to JM Dare's write up. But that's pushing the boundaries I guess. Thanks.
