Thank you @Griffin , @FellSkyhawk ,@xclavex. Glad you are enjoying it.
FYI we really find it almost impossible for us to support Windows 7 now and we definitely don't support Vista systems.
There is a small bug fix patch being worked on right now. That is for mostly minor issues and won't fix crash issues as that's something else happening somewhere

Hi folks, really enjoying the patch - amazing work on this. I was wondering if anyone got a solution to the above issue, as I'm also experiencing the same lag/skipping/occasional crash when entering or exiting the hangar (perhaps tragically after completing a mission). Set monitor to 60 Hz without any improvement. It's running at 1440p, no compatibility mode selected, and I have a pretty modern build (Nvidia 4080, relatively recent i7). Any help on this would be immensely appreciated!Demis_Russos wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 2:45 amI made a mistake. It was Win Vista SP2. I turned it off to see if that helped but it's still doing what I described.MuttandSolo wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 12:12 amI don’t think you need to run it in Win7 compatibility mode. That maybe part of your problem.Demis_Russos wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 3:27 amHi All,
Loving the 2024 update and have followed the instructions for the Steam install on my rig. I'm noticing a lag between the point at which the ships launch from the hangar and the transition to playable space and when I return to the hangar after a battle. Sometimes the program will crash me out back to Windows and I have to relaunch it.
I'm playing mine on an HP with an Intel i7, CPU @ 2.6Ghz, 16 Gb RAM, NVidia GeForce GTX 1650. I've set compatibility to Windows 7 SP2 and turned full screen to off. I've ensured I have the latest drivers for everything I can think of.

There is lag sometimes when leaving or entering hangar but it shouldn't crash.LexLoofah wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 4:47 pmHi folks, really enjoying the patch - amazing work on this. It can crash when pressing H. You could try the new Beta ddraw and see if that helps.
That will also be in the upcoming minor bug fix patch.

Have you also enabled VSync in the hangar? Open ddraw.cfg and find "EnableVSyncInHangar" (or something like that). Make sure it's set to 1 and keep your monitor at 60Hz. Also: are you running on Windows 10?LexLoofah wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 4:47 pmHi folks, really enjoying the patch - amazing work on this. I have a Core i9, RTX 4070 Super, 32gigs ram, and running on a NVME SSD drive in Windows 11. I am using the GOG version of xwing alliance so I'm not sure which one that is (was having problems even loading the game with steam). I have no issue running games overall, but I must be doing something wrong. I was able to get in and test run training missions but when trying to do the actual campaign it just freezes at mission load.Forceflow wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 6:38 amIt just freezes but doesn't crash? That's a difficult one to debug. Can you give us some more info about your system? What specs does your PC have and also importantly what XWA version are you running? (GoG, Steam, CD)xclavex wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 3:28 pmHello. I found your mod and it looks very interesting. However, I have been unable to start a mission. I try to play and make it through the menu just fine, but then it freezes during the mission load. I let it sit for about 5 minutes, and it never loaded under "mission loading". Not sure what happened, but I have been unable to test it. Any ideas?

@JeremyaFr or @blue_max any idea what the issue could be or how to further narrow down any potential problem?xclavex wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2024 6:06 pmI have a Core i9, RTX 4070 Super, 32gigs ram, and running on a NVME SSD drive in Windows 11. Maybe your antivirus deleted some DLLs (hooks)? Try adding an exception for the GoG\Games directory so that it won't scan anything under there, and then try re-installing XWAUxclavex wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2024 6:06 pmI have a Core i9, RTX 4070 Super, 32gigs ram, and running on a NVME SSD drive in Windows 11. Congratulations on the release!
I'm really looking forward to playing it, but will there be a new lutris installation script created for the GOG XWA for this release?

I'm crashing out as well. Not every time, but it only happens during undocking/docking sequence. Seems to be very consistent on the 2nd training campaign mission when you join the rebels. I have tried all above mentioned fixes. Updated my hooks as well as tried the ddraw from 8/31/24.
Running a 7800x3d paired to a RTX 4090 with 64GB RAM. Using an ultrawide monitor (AW3821DW) with refresh rate set to 60hz.

Does the game crash? In that case there should be a crashdump-file being created in your xea folder. Please upload this somewhere (it's rather large unfortunately) and share the link with us. Then we can try to figure out what is happening.OldeRogue wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 1:19 amI'm crashing out as well. Not every time, but it only happens during undocking/docking sequence. The XWAU-Team doesn't support the Linux installation ourselves. We don't have the know how on how to do this. Not sure who is currently maintaining that unfortunately.

@JeremyaFr can you take a look and see if you spot the issue?

@Forceflow & @JeremyaFr I would like to add that I turned off vsync using Babu Frik Config and that seems to have stabilized everything. Still some minor judders when docking/undocking but no more crash to desktop. Played 3 more missions this morning. Curious if you can reference anything related in the DMP files!

The first 3 crashes happen in the 32bpp hook. It seems related to memory usage.
The crash from XWINGALLIANCE_20240907_195753687_XWINGALLIANCE happens in the cokpit look hook.
The crash from XWINGALLIANCE_20240907_201222380_KERNELBASE happens in the Effects DDraw.
I will update the 32bpp hook to reduce memory usage.

@JeremyaFr & @Forceflow, I also updated the hooks and am still having crashing issues when entering the hangar (and also occasionally during other gameplay). Also confirmed the ddraw settings @blue_max mentioned earlier (VSync and VSync in hangar both = 1; also I'm running on Windows 11). Happy to share dump files or anything else that would be helpful!
Am also trying a few other things but can test the effects beta as suggested by @Ace Antilles next if that doesn't work. Thanks again all!

You mentioned above that you have a 4080 card and your monitor is still set to 60Hz, right? Can you check your in nVidia/GPU Control Panel and make sure that VSync isn't set to "off" or "Force off" for this game?LexLoofah wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 11:47 pm@JeremyaFr & @Forceflow, I also updated the hooks and am still having crashing issues when entering the hangar (and also occasionally during other gameplay). A few updates:
- @blue_max's effects beta did not seem to solve the crashing problem (though the improvements are very nice!). None of my other attempted fixes seemed to work either. I can confirm that VSync was enabled for the game in the graphics card utility (Nvidia Control Panel) as well, and yes, was running at 60Hz.
- I ended up reinstalling from scratch because of a separate issue (below) and stupidly deleted all my crash dumps as a result. I also just completed the game so it may be a bit before I test it, but at some point I can try to play around on a new pilot file to replicate the error. I'm guessing the reinstall didn't solve it, though, because the skipping that precedes the crashing events is still present, but you never know.
- This one seems more of a mission-behavior issue rather than a graphics/crashing problem, but in the final mission (call it Battle 7 Mission 4), at a certain part where your ship is supposed to fly through an accelerator ring and "watch out for those containers," the ring instead "catches" the ship and I get stuck there, with the sound effects playing as if it were the receiving ring instead of the launch ring. Only about 1 every 5 times did I get released from the ring, and when I did, almost every time I just barely "escape" it, leaving me to manually fly down the very long "launch" tunnel instead of getting propelled. There also doesn't seem to be any way to avoid the launch ring, as it will pull you into it and crash you into the side even from the edge of the area. I was able to, by sheer luck, escape the ring and complete the mission (yay!), but the behavior of the ring felt clearly wrong, and it required me to reattempt the mission dozens of times.
I tried reinstalling from a totally clean install, thinking that this ring issue plus the crashing might be from an install problem and just wanted to get through the story, but alas, the issue persisted even on the fresh install. I wanted to flag this in case anyone else runs into this, given the tragedy of getting stuck about 10 minutes from the finale. (If I was doing something wrong with the launch ring and there's something you're supposed to do other than just fly through it, I will also accept any public embarrassment you deem appropriate.)
Anyway, thanks again for all of your hard work on this. Despite the bumps with the 2024 update this strikes me as one of the premier passion project mods out there, and I'm extraordinarily grateful for your gift to the fandom.

Just blown away. This is unreal. What an amazing experience!
I cannot begin to thank everyone involved in this project. It's an incredible accomplishment and every bit appreciated by the fans of the X-Wing community.
