I really love the new heads up data at the target box. I do find the shield and hull bars to be a bit to thick for my liking though. Maybe they could be narrowed a bit?
The bars get slimmer as you get closer.
I did some testing on my side and I find 5 or 6 looks good to me.

Code: Select all

enhanced_hud_bar_thickness = 5
It could vary really depending on screen resolution

@Eh Wing Hey there! Thanks for your feedback! We do listen to stuff like this and we try to accommodate requests (within reason), but sometimes we're just a bit short of time. (BTW, none of the things you mentioned are unreasonable :) )

The text in the Enhanced HUD is intentionally obscured by the cockpit in the foreground -- I was actually kind of proud that I achieved that :P We did this because in the initial preview, some people complained that the text was always visible. Anyway, this is something that can be toggled easily, so no worries. Can do :)
Eh Wing wrote:

I'm also wondering what these values do:
enhanced_hud_display_bars = 1
Setting this to 0 disables the Enhanced HUD.
enhanced_hud_vertical_bars = 1
Setting this to 0 changes the HUD to display bars horizontally.
enhanced_hud_min_bracket_size = 20
enhanced_hud_max_bracket_size = 150
These control the minimum and maximum sizes of the sub-component brackets.
enhanced_hud_bar_gap = 7
When the bars are horizontal, this setting controls the gap between the bars.
enhanced_hud_bar_frame_width = 0
A frame is rendered around the bars so that we can tell how much "health" is left. This setting controls the width of that frame.

Anyway, I have a backlog of features that people have asked me to implement, but I can probably start rolling out some of the stuff you're requesting in the near future :)

Thanks for your feedback!

Discord.png

Greetings Pilots!
We are glad to see everyone is enjoying the new XWAU 2025 so far!

Just a reminder that we also have a Discord channel available now.

@AngeI from the TFTC graciously setup a channel on their TFTC Discord server.

In there you will find a little corner for the XWAU where we might drop by from time to time.
You can post questions and problems and other XWAU / TFTC users maybe able to help. Note that our primary communication channel still is the forum here.
Bug reports, support requests and other topics are still best asked here, chat moves quick on Discord.

Several members are active on Discord but we all have busy lives and different time zones so the channel wont be closely monitored.
But if you are a Discord member join up and share your love of XWAU with us there too :D
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

The new videos are also all available in the different language options via our newest configuration tool, the C-3PO's Language Configurator.
This new tool will also be able to switch your in-game language to the language of your choice and is available as a separate download in the Installer Manager.
We will be expanding on the use of this and more fixes to mission language options over time.
This is very interesting, I was already thinking of copying the language audio files from CD to replace the English ones from the GOG edition, but I noticed that it would take a long time to make sure that the ~6500 voice files also include the ones with the sound effects.
I wanted to report an error in the XWA.TAB file, present in both the base game 1.0 and updated version 2.02:

Code: Select all

KEY_LESS_THAN	"60 ;(PuntoVirgola) Scorre componenti obiettivo invers."
Line 8863
The quotes (") prevent the command from working, just remove them and it will work.
Of course this isn't a problem since using the software that comes with the package doesn't use the game's internal system to configure the controls, but it's still a bug that needs to be fixed.

At the moment C-3PO's Language Configurator only copies the 3 newly remade movies in other languages.
That plus the XWA.tab file. There will be some errors as even the official released ones weren't perfect.

Supporting all languages with different files is a massive job by itself!
We started this process only recently and it will grow over time and we will try and make it as compatible as possible.

In the meantime if you copy folders from your Wave folder, excluding FE_HIGH_RES, then you can get your sound effects back.
I would keep them on your PC in a separate folder if it takes you a long time to do.

Which language are you using? XWAU does not replace voice files so it retains the originals of the game you have.

So all the videos will also have the various languages in the audio or will they be subtitled?

For XWA.tab I found small errors but they were trivial, just a few typos.
What I indicated in prevents the command from being assigned to the joystick button using the internal system.

I realize that you are at the beginning, in fact I am waiting patiently for the new versions.

Uhm... I also have the FE_LOW_RES folder which should be the "low quality" version of the sounds, I think those who use the CD version have both folders.
As soon as there is a good discount I'll buy it on GOG.

So all the 6488 files contained in the other folders have only the voices right?
If I remember correctly the LST files are identical to the English version so we are not interested in them since the audio files are named as in the English version there is no need to copy them.

I have the game in the Italian edition.

The videos that have different language audio and that we have access too will be converted.
But these are the new recreated videos I am referring to. That could take quite a long time to be complete.
No subtitles as we can't support that with the HD videos now.

GOG have XWA on offer now very cheap. You won't get it much better.
It has an offline Italian version you can download.
If you get that and install it and then the XWAU you won't then need to copy any sound files at all.

Then download the Add one and use C-3PO's Language Configurator to replace files in Italian.

I was thinking more about videos with English audio and "hardsub" subtitles, integrated directly into the video rather than "softsub", with .srt, .ssa or .ass files.
However, videos with audio in your own language are, although very long to make, more appreciated.

I checked some time ago, on the download page the available languages are English, German and Italian... but only for Italian it does not indicate audio available.
This has always put me off buying it on Steam and GOG.
Going to https://www.gogdb.org/product/1421404763 (it is legal, it is a database with only product info) it shows that there are 3 versions of the game available in the 3 available languages.

We recommend a digital copy of XWA no matter what reasons.
We no longer really support CD versions because we don't use them.
Plus you will need to reinstall many times with XWAU over time.
So get a digital copy and backup your cd wave files is best

Holy shit guys, this is so cool, - So just to be clear If I want to keep XWAUP 2024 installed so I can run TFTC, I can just copy all the files from 2024's vanilla XWA backup folder to a new directory, follow the guide as per creating the mods folder and anti-virus whitelisting,then install the new install manager and point it to wherever I pasted 2024's backup XWA vanilla install?

Or do I even need to move anything and can just point installer manager to 2024's backup vanilla XWA folder?

XWAU 2025 is incredible! My deepest compliments to everyone who poured their heart into this project. I can honestly say—it’s no small feat to take a game that’s over 25 years old and breathe new life into it like this. Especially in these past few years, the leaps forward have been nothing short of extraordinary.

I’m writing here, in this public chat, to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the beautiful dedication. I promise you—I will return. It’s not easy right now, because I need to find the strength I’ve lost. But I will, because I want to dedicate all of my work to someone who, for so many years, created true wonders. I’ll get back on my feet—for her!

Yes, I am aware of it:
The CD version has some problems;
The Steam version is not recommended due to the file integrity verification system;
The GOG version is the most suitable.

Is it recommended to always install each new version of the patch on a clean version of the game?

A brand new release, such as 2024, 2025, should be on a clean copy.
That way the right files will be deleted or replaced and no broken or unnecessary files left behind.

Update patches shouldn't require a reinstall

For 2025 a new fresh install is needed. Going forward I hope that a full new release will be much farther down the line. 2025 wasn't really planned. 2024 was supposed to be the new base, but we realised that we needed a completely new installer and then think got a bit out of hand.

But this is also the reason why we made the new installer as it no longer overwrites your vanilla install, so you can easily have multiple installs if you want or need.

Oh my... it's beautiful! You guys never cease to amaze. I have the tiniest bug, I've noticed the progress bar as missions load is roughly 1 pixel higher than the start and end images. If you never fix this I will never care as what you do continues to blow my mind. The fix to the launch loading time and the new cinematics alone mean a full playthrough is in order. Thanks team!

Can you post a small screenshot showing what you mean please? I can't quite see the issue.
Also what resolution is your monitor screen and the in game setting you use.

If we get to the point our only bug is that there is a 1 pixel height issue, :motz: Then I think we can all retire happy! :lachtot:
