Why am I so cautiously optimistic about this?

Mhm... I really want to be excited about this and the teaser image looks promising, but I don't know. My biggest fear is that it'll be another multiplayer only shooter style sim. I want another single player experience with story that will make me feel like the hero and not the incompetent pilot I actually am compared to other players

EA got a lot of things right with Jedi Fallen Order so I am very cautiously hopeful... We'll see

Yeah, honestly from the look of the teaser image that makes a lot of sense. It could be a X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter reboot. That kinda had some story missions as well.
While I am sure a lot of folks will really like this I doubt it'll be for me...

I doubt it'll have the depth of XvT. While XvT was MP based it employed the same deep Sim mechanics as XW, TF and XWA after it. If I had to guess I'd say its controls will have a more arcade-ish style to it. Something like Dreadnought or the space parts of SWBF2

To be honest, I won't even be too unhappy if it's not the next X-Wing blockbuster. Seeing how much energy we've poured into this little niche project of ours, I'd hate to see it being stomped by another of EA's triple A cash cows - unless that cash cow came with mod support ....

If it's popular enough people will make their own mod support. Just take a look at some of the mods for DICE's Battlefront 2. Fallen Order also has some mods, but nothing crazy, mostly model swaps.

It all depends on what game engine they're using.

Prediction: Based off the current Battlefront/Battlefield engine, they'll try to do something a bit more in-depth than recent efforts but won't match the complexity of the old school games. Still given Fallen Order was pretty decent and EA let the C&C Remastered team do their own thing, there's some hope yet this might be ok.

This is what I have seen online. As it's for the Xbox too I expect it to be more like Battlefront 2.
Not a terrible thing but I'm not paying EAs £50 standard!

I'm gonna guess this wont change the amount of people contributing in this community. At this point Lucasarts would have to be revived from the dead and send emissaries to us to figure out what was needed in their next premier story sim to have my attention.

Quite frankly we have all the best people and the most comprehensive advancements, not to mention an appreciation for the EU content of the old days.

I suspect even if most of us give it a chance we will all be right back here trying to implement any of the handful of inventive features they introduce.


I say let the casuals have their console arcade experience. We will be here waiting when they want a bit more depth

Ah yes consoles... That will limit the depth of the simulation factor quite a bit. Guess there's a very good chance it's going to be quite arcady.

i played the old battlefront games and i loved them, thenew one is nice and some times i play it but i do not like the space maps.
Here i have alliance now since 20 years. and i love it.
But with YOUR work is is still the best and i think the new game will not be better. it will be for the masses and here is alliance to complex

I'm excited for it. once I got a good cockpit/joystick setup for SW BFII Starfighter Assault, I had a lot of fun, but eventually the lack of any real sim mechanics and overall flimsiness of every ship drove me crazy. I'm hoping that it'll be at least more of a sim than that. I think it will but we'll have to wait til monday!

So trailer came out and it shows us... nothing. Don't get me wrong, fancy pretty CGI trailer and all, but no gameplay. The only thing that caught my eye was that X-Wing pilot shunting power to engines so that at least implies some level of energy management. Otherwise looks like a 5v5 MP style game in set piece battles I guess? With a SP campaign bundled in?

There was a New Republic Starhawk in the trailer, Hera Syndulla and Wedge are also in the trailer

Looks like you can divert between Shield, Weapon and Engine power. The EA Website also mentions distributing power.

Ok thats fair, game engines these days can be good enough to do this. But that still doesn't negate my point, this is a flashy trailer which shows absolutely zero real gameplay
