I faced the Emperor's Hammer with members of renegade Wing this evening, we faired... poorly. Six deaths each though, so pain was equally portioned.

My own entry into the fray looks like it will be sooner rather than later, as I've been told on the Shadow Discord that the Boost virtual PCs, which are the ones available right now, should run it. It'll still only be an intermediate step between my current setup and a gaming build, but I at least know I don't have to commit to the Ultra. More info in the Happy thread.

Sadly, It seems like another EA cash grab from what Ive played. The work done around here with the dynamic UI and integrating VR head tracking with actual controller support on PC for an over 20 year old game is more fun. (Not an insult, just showing how soulless EA is and how they have no understanding of what makes star wars tick and have no intention to try.)
Compared to squadrons, XWAU literally is idiot proofed since you can literally hit random buttons and learn the controls and feel like you are actually piloting a TIE or rebel starfighter with a controller in your hands and occasionally tapping the keyboard like an actual starfighter cockpit.
Squadrons was frustrating just to get to the actual gameplay in VR because of the abhorrent menus. Never refunded a game faster in my life.
Tie fighters are not super sophisticated and shielded craft capable of standing toe to toe with an X wing. They're supposed to be faster and more maneuverable. Not the literal same thing as an x wing for "balancing" purposes..... Tie defender update or not its still BS and insulting.
Some potentially random rant that I deem relevant:
Squadrons is Almost as bad as the E3 2017 EAfront 2 reveal where they hyped up B1 battledroids as something better than clone troopers. lol. Glad someone called them out on it quoting george lucas's actual design and purpose for them.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_lzAy3UuKE
was a video somewhere using this and rightly mocking the EA Hype train. While EAfront 2 is better now, we cant forget where we came from because they did it again here.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ww0b49w3EY
Also no instant action and you sure cant pick what you want to fight in squadrons. nothing but a dauntless class ship as the rebel "capital ship" and an ISD II for the imps.
The Artiquens needs to be retired at this point as a "ship of the line" kinda ship that disney keeps forcing in front of fans. its a clone wars ship since its a "frigate" in squadrons as in VICTORY STAR DESTROYER EQUIVALENT, in which it is clearly not.... Its not a bad ship it just doesnt belong in the empire especially after they ditched all the clone wars gear early on after order 66.
Blockade runners are fine for rebels I guess but in the new republic era, which this is set, you'd think theyd have MC40's instead of blockade runners everywhere and a bit more MC80A's lying around 5+ years after endor. XWAU has more actual rebel ships besides x wings and blockade runners like EA likes to spam in front of fans as the only ships they ever had. We've yet to even see a Nebulon B for christ's sake in EA wars games...
I had more fun over the last week with X:WAU in VR than I did with Squadrons and refunded it within 20 minutes of playing its jarring VR menus and intentionally Designed frustrating VR experience for PC users. You actually get to see the controls on the dynamic cockpit, meanwhile in EA squadrons you cant even use Motion controls in a AAA game. may as well make a car without an engine and tell you to drive it off the lot at that point.
Hence why EA frustrated me so much I felt compelled to make something for the team and genuinely want to join. Will have to lurk a bit more to learn how to make some OPT's for Tie hunters, Phantoms, and an Imperial Nebulon B and learn how to actually integrate them in game with the models I made.

Oh boy.
That’s not a Dauntless but the MC75 cruiser introduced in Rogue One. They even call it as such several times in-game.
And the Arquitens used in the game is a refit model that’s been shown to be in widespread use by the Empire before.
I get being annoyed by gameplay issues, but isn’t 2020 several years late to be complaining that the Disney canon diverges from the Legends canon?

You may not like the game but a lot of veteran players, including the Emperor's Hammer and the Alliance squadrons are having a lot of fun.

While EA published the game, it was concepted by Motive Studios. Yes Motive is owned by EA, but what I mean is that the idea didn't come from the higher ups at EA. A small team at Motive, (made up of fans of the X-Wing Series) made a prototype and pitched it to EA and LucasFilm.
And it had been said in the interviews from the very beginning that it would be a small game, which is why it's cheap (relatively speaking)

The only insulting going on here, is you. Take your laughably irrational, petulant man-child behavior elsewhere. I’d recommend Steam’s review sections, they are about at your intellectual level.Commander Graham wrote: ↑Wed Dec 02, 2020 10:27 pm...all you types do is invalidate and insult people...

What an icehole.
As much as I dislike EA and prefer the X-Wing games over Squadrons and Legends/EU over Disney canon, Motive Studio did a good job all things considered.

X-wing is definitely a more "serious" offering, especially in terms of the campaign, but vy the time you've bound every individual command on the console-friendly targeting and coms wheels you're about 80% of the way towards X-wing and the game includes things not present in the earlier series, like fine shield control.
Despite this some people really hate the game and I can only conclude it's because they're afraid it might finally kill X-wing, which it won't.

My gripes with Squadrons are mostly with the gameplay variety.
XVT had a much bigger variety of mission than battles between 2 cruisers, and in PVP it could also means while you could lose, you could also make sure that the other side would also lose (for example, Frigate Duel: Malevolent vs. Endeavor, where if both frigate were destroyed, it would count as a loss to both side)

Regarding future updates to Squadrons (after the B-Wing/TIE Defender update)
From the Community Manager on the official Discord server:

There are currently no content updates after that in the works. The game is not following a live service model.

Got to commend them for that, they either resisted a lot of pressure from EA, or, which is more likely, EA just didnt care and didnt even expect that it would actually sells

I think after Battlefront II was straight up accused to trying to get kids addicted to gambling and caused some European countries to tighten up regulation Disney came down hard on EA.
That game has sold more than enough units to justify custom matches and some new content. If it continues to sell well it may get a couple more maps, but I imagine that's it.
More likely, the success of the game will lead to a bigger sequel in a few years with a much bigger budget.

actually we are playing both and in growing numbers. each game push the other because of their unique diversity.BattleDog wrote: ↑Fri Dec 04, 2020 2:52 pmX-wing is definitely a more "serious" offering, especially in terms of the campaign, but vy the time you've bound every individual command on the console-friendly targeting and coms wheels you're about 80% of the way towards X-wing and the game includes things not present in the earlier series, like fine shield control.

Eckhart was on a stream with Ian Frazier and Ian said one of the first pitches they did for the game was everyone flying uglies, you'd make your own starfighter out of junk and stuff.
They were also contacted during Beta by one of the leads from the XvT, and Motive hooked them up with their internal beta and they loved it.

My opinion:
The B-Wing is… tricky. Competent against Raiders, a bit less efficient against other capital ships, and a sitting duck against fighters. Annoyingly slow, but more than doubles its speed while boosting. Absolute killer firepower. Use only if you can gather a competent fighter escort.
The Defender is nice, but I find I still perform better with an Interceptor. Nice firepower if you know how to use it, though.

put the SLAM engine on it and drift, you'll find fighters to be less of an issue. Yes, it's slow and vulnerable but it's not quite a sitting ducck.DarHan wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 2:41 amMy opinion:
