I feel like a noob, but how do I ‘scan’ a ship

Hi,

I’m playing the second reimagined training mission in TFTC and I need to go to ship to ship and scan them. But I cannot work out what key I am supposed to press to scan them. It says to get to a certain distance from them to scan them which I do, but I’m not sure how I’m supposed to ‘initiate’ the scan.

There's no dedicated scan function. To scan a ship you just select it and then fly close enough until you hear a chime and the details pop up on your CMD.
