Hello,
Thanks for the feedback.
It is a known issue in the installer. A fix will be available in the next update.

Here are my initial thoughts / issues / questions:
Everything looks great! The menus & briefing scenes are all incredible. Thank yall so much. I'm enjoying going through the campaign again.

1. It is a little too dark in space now. Maybe too realistic of a space sim ;)
2. It would be nice to have a Sound config under Babu's Configurator to restore original sounds. (or maybe even select some important sounds like blaster fire sound). The shield impact sound is cool, but not quite loud enough.
3. I've had a couple crash to desktops during missions. Also, a few where failures occurred due to craft being destroyed even though collisions are off. Anyone else had that happen?
4. The blaster charge indicators seem to be off in the A-Wing and Y-Wing cockpits.

I have an issue in the XWA2024 installer.
I've installed a fresh copy off of Steam, started the game and exited again. Then I made a copy of the full installation to a separate folder.
Next, I started XWAU2024.exe, clicked through to selecting the folder. The input box was empty at first, so I navigated to the location of that copy I made.
But when I click past the requirements, I get a warning popup saying:
"It seems that you have selected a Steam folder (---location of my steam installation---). It is recommended to install into a folder outside Steam. You can create a duplicate folder with the Copy button. Do you want to continue with the selected folder?"

At this point, I clicked "No" and "Back" to notice that indeed the selected folder was changed to my Steam install folder.
I tried relaunching XWAU2024, but each time it's the same.

I also tried the "Copy" button, to copy that same folder to yet another folder. It makes a copy successfully, but when I then click Next, it once again warns me about having selected a Steam folder, with the same behavior as before.

Any suggestions?

-- EDIT --
I've uninstalled the game from my Steam library and tried again. This time it did not change the location anymore. Seeing as this was one of the suggestions from the install document, I suppose it's the best way to go. But it might still be a bug in the installer or it should be highlighted more in the install document.
Thanks for the report. As Jeremy said itt is a known issue in the installer.
It happened late in testing and we thought we fixed it but sadly I messed up and it went live.
We will be testing the fix for the next issue.

Either way you are better off not having it installed from Steam anyway.
You are free to make as many folder versions as you want now too :)

Hello. Its the most fantastic version ever. Just like movie graphics. moreover, there is a minor text issue.
The concourse text is too bold. (using 16:10, 1920 x 1200 laptop)
Also HUD is little bit small in this resolution (tried 1 more resolution also). The craft selected on hud is not fitting.
Also concourse text like is missing (e.g GO TO MISSION displays only Go TO..)
Pls check I may be wrong in settings.
So I can see the issue you mean in the video but I can't replicate it on my end.
It could be a resolution issue. The problem is we don't have testers with every screen resolution.
Have you tried in 16:9 Aspect Ratio to see if it works in that?
Are you playing on an English text version and no other mods have been added after or before?

We will try to look into the problem as best as possible. :?

1 - As mentioned: Some missions are a little darker than they should be. We will be trying to optimise the lightning on those missions more in the future.
3 - There are some random crashes happening. We're at the point where we are stretching a 640x480 25 year old game to it's limits! They are being looked into.
4 - Do you have a screenshot?

2 - Sadly it's not that easy. All the Flightmodel INIs had to be edited to be compatible with the new system. Plus there are a large amount of new folders.
Hopefully in the future when my brain works I can make a guide to the new Sound system.
We can never hope to please everyone's visions of what sounds to use. It will likely be some WIP to get a good balance over time.
In the meantime there are some sound fixes being checked over and constructive feedback on ones to change is welcome.
All the original XWA sounds will be in the Backup folder.
Which blaster fire sound do you mean?

Enjoy the campaign. :D

OK I will try with change in aspect ratio.
No I have installed Vanilla and installed on XWAUP 2024 no other Mods.

Hello,
Here is a possible fix for the missing text issue:

hook_concourse_WIP_2407171327.zip

Make a backup of the hook_concourse.dll file and replace it with the one from the zip.

Greetings Pilots. Settle down and we will begin the briefing.

We have released a new Effects Ddraw Beta version from @blue_max
You can find it on the site from the Downloads page and under BETA VERSIONS

It will fix most of the VR issues we had. Namely missing HUD aiming sights.
It will also make the VR scale show correctly in Steam VR.
Also the disabled Dynamic Cockpit in the Y-wing is also fixed.

These were our biggest issues immediately. So hopefully this file fixes those for you.

We get reports a lot of weird issues in missions. AI crashing into things or docking being slow etc.
We mentioned above this is usually to do with the monitor refresh rate being over 60Hz and ofc the game age.
Investigation of better fixes is being discussed but in the meantime @LPhoenix has created a great guide of a way to help with this.
Take a look at his post in the Guides section - https://forums.xwaupgrade.com/viewtopic.php?t=14397

We are working on a few other minor tweaks and fixes for release asap but want them to be right.
This was a massive release and there were bound to be some issues with so many extra users testing.
Thanks for understanding and I hope everyone is enjoying the new higher quality visuals.

@Vince T has posted an XWAU 2024 SPOTLIGHTS thread where we will show off the new features more.
https://forums.xwaupgrade.com/viewtopic.php?t=14392

Now get to the Hangar pilots your mission awaits! ;)

Below are a few other issues we are aware of and looking into.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Installer issues when selecting folders
This can be got around by copying the game folder to a new location.
Then UNINSTALL the game from the computer.
Then install XWAU to the new place where you want to put the XWA folder. You can have as many game folders as you wish!
This was a last minute error on my behalf. :ops: The faults have been identified and fixes will be tested.

There are some random crashes when you load a mission.
We are investigating but it's been hard to lock down.

Z-95 causes an error when switching to Dual in Craft Manager.
This is simply an annoying spelling mistake! The faults have been identified and fix coming.
In the meantime you can alter the INI directly if you are desperate.

Y-wing Cockpit colours and Skins
The Ddraw caused issues before. Fixes will be tested and added.

Text being cut off at different resolutions
A possible fix for this has been posted above by Jeremy.

Virus Flags with Hooks
As mentioned in the install these are False Positives.
Jeremy has recompiled another Hook to try and avoid this.

Sound issues or User feedback
Fixes for the AW Engine is coming and other issues such as Map sounds are being looked at.
I am looking at new sound files to replace or improve a few released.
Favourite Sounds can be very different for each person. There's no wrong or right answer. In the end we had to pick one to use from a LOT of options.
This will likely be worked on over many releases. The good thing is it's very customisable now. I hope to make some guide in the future about sounds editing.

Thank you for your patience while we compile fixes in the best way.

Superb work JeremyaFr the hook is working great. Thank you so much
Now the Center HUD view should be adjusted for target selected. The target picture is too big. Everything else i.e. text of all the HUD and other views are fantastic.

Now I undergo some new issues

I completed Mission 37 (break Emon out of Brig). But unfortunately it skips mission protect smuggler (mission 38) and went to Mission 39
I checked Mission.lst and mission file. They both are ok. Nothing much serious made a copy of mission.lst and edited mission lines to skip.

Thank u once again Great upgrade 2024 is. Wonderful work.

In the Y-Wing, the blaster indicators at the top don't match what is showing at the bottom. Should they?

Hello,
After serveral testings and trying many dll files, I have been able to play online the tour Campaign in multiplayer with friends.
I had to make some changes to the great 2024 update.
I changed the hook_tourmultiplayer.dll and Hook_CockpitLook.dll to previous ones (find attached file) then you have to modify the files:
* CockpitLook.cfg--> tracker_type = TrackIR
* In Hooks.ini -->
[hook_tourmultiplayer]
; Enable the tourmultiplayer hook
; 0 = disabled
; 1 = enabled
IsHookEnabled = 1

With these changes we have been able to play the campaign in multiplayer mode and with head tracking.

We do NOT recommend changing back to old Hooks like Hook_CockpitLook.dll for general play.
They were updated for a reason and going back can make other things not work.

The MP Hook is still a WIP as there are errors to correct and it has not been tested with the 2024 release.

If there is a reason the Hooks aren't working for MP play can you explain and @JeremyaFr and @blue_max can attempt to fix them.

In Multiplayer mode, the packets sent through the network contain some information related to the player's camera. For some reason, the game expects every player to have the "same camera settings" or it will constantly show errors and interrupt gameplay saying the game is out of sync. I believe this feature was originally intended to make sure every player was running the same version of the game (and also maybe to avoid cheating?)

I believe there's people who have attempted to fix the issue by forcing the packets to have fake camera data, but I haven't done that myself. I also don't know what the multiplayer hook does, but this sounds really interesting. Maybe @ual002 may know more about this. Still, it would be very interesting if we could get this running.

In my case after installing the update and copying the requried missions and other required files, the mutiplayertour hook wasn't working --> the tour icon wasn't visible in the multiplayer screen.
I instaled a previous dll version and then I was able to see the TOUR button, and after clicking on It i was able to acces to the tour missions throug the load button. We tried with 2 players in several missions and It worked fine. So may be that dll is a good starting point to now wy the actual version is not working.

After this I saw a topic in this forum (https://forums.xwaupgrade.com/viewtopic ... ok#p190395) where @m0rgg had created a dll to use headtracking in MP, so I went to the Github link (https://github.com/morallo/Hook_XWACock ... layer_test) and used that dll.

We tested with 2 players in the tour campagin and It worked perfectly. We may need to test with more players to see If It causes desync or not.

@Ace Antilles is totally right, this is just a test, and this could not work or creating issues.

I will test deeper and I will let you know the issues.

Fantastic! Works great now.

I know a lot of people have said this and I kind of already said it, but it is utterly incredible that a game that I started playing in HIGH SCHOOL (TWENTY FIVE years ago) can look this good and play this well on modern hardware, flawless VR support to boot.

Jaw-droppingly great work. Thank you so much.

A fan blowing air to your face could help. Also, make sure that the FPS are high enough, even if you need to disable stuff like Raytraced shadows, bloom, or lower the resolution.
